I really want to take my family to Teppan Edo for the experience but my DS has severe peanut allergies. :sad1:I hadn't thought it was an option until I got a mailer explaining that they would accomodate allergies. Has anyone actually gone to Teppan Edo with nut allergies and had a good experience? What do they do? Separate grill with no offending foods? Bring out a separate plate alltogether?

Please help with experiences you've had!:worship:

We were there in Jan 2009 and the family we sat with had allergies. I do not know what type (peanut, shellfish?). We were advised after we sat down that there were participants with allergies and their food would be cooked first separately. Then the remainder food would be cooked.
I am sympathetic to the need as allergies are a bummer (I have contact allergies to various material), but note out late dinner was extended due to this. DD (9) was hungry waiting as well.
The did handle allergies well from what I saw.
The food was good, not spectacular. The green tea pudding was yummy!

Disney is excellent at handling food allergies. You can actually call the restaurant and ask what they do for a peanut-free meal. Then, before your visit, you can call again and make sure that the chef knows your party has peanut allergies, and remind them when you'll be dining there.
I don't recall any of their sauces being peanut-based, but who knows what kind of oil they use. It's best to call them directly and find out!
On another note, my nephew is now 18. He had peanut allergies as a child, but recent testing has shown that he's outgrown them. His were severe enough that he carried an Epi pen, so this is a big deal for my sister and her family!

We ate there in Nov. and both my daughter and I have a severe allergy to mushrooms. The chef did as the previous poster stated........first they rescrubbed the grill. Then, they cooked all of our food first. They also cooked the other people's food that didn't include mushrooms. The mushrooms were cooked last.

Interesting.... when we ate there in December we also sat with a gentleman with some type of allergy (shellfish, I believe) His food was cooked in the kitchen while everyone else's was cooked right there.

I also have a shellfish allergy and that's how my meal was prepared...not on the grill in front at all.

It tasted great and was very fresh.
