Teppan Edo & Tokyo Dining

I was looking at both menus on AllEars and was wondering if one was a counter service? From pictures they both look like table service restaurants and the menus are very similar. Any Epcot Japan experts out there? How was the food before the rehab? We might want to try some Japanese food out on our Dec trip

we loved both before the rehab. Yes, both are TS, only one side was on the DDP earlier. (the counter service in Japan is the Yaki Tori house.)

Both menus look very similar to the old ones, a few new things, we always got green tea ice cream, notice there is now green tea pudding. The endamame is surprising good, don't eat the pod!

BTW: One side is the Teppan side, where they cook in front of you, the other side is Tempura and sushi, it has a great view of the water.

They are both table service. The menus are actually quite different and the dining experiences should be very different.

Teppan Edo is an experience similar to Benihana, where the food is prepared on a huge hot griddle in front of you.

Tokyo Dining is a sushi restaurant that also serves tempura (battered fried things) and tonkatsu (fried cutlets).

BTW, don't even bother trying to call for Tokyo Dining reservations right now. I just got off the phone with the Dining Reservations people and they still claim it doesn't exist. I even insisted they ask a manager and they are sticking to their story. They keep telling me I mean Teppan Edo. You'd think at least the managers would be aware Tokyo Dining is open!

Yakitori House (if it is still there) is the CS in Japan. It is opposite the two new restaurants.

1) Correct.
2) It will be so nice to see Illuminations while eating.
3) It is also be nice to have it not as a DDP.
4) Like Bistro, it is easy to get a good table.
5) We need more non-DDP eateries.

I ate at Teppan Edo the evening it opened to the public. It is more stylish, but essentially the same food as before (but the salad was better). The restaurant has a different atmosphere. Tokyo Dining is a beautiful looking area, I already put a couple of pics online here from my collection.

I was going to start a Thread today asking if Teppan Edo had opened yet I had read both 10/15 and 11/1. We have an ADR for 10/27 and were hoping it would be open.
So, it is currently open to the public?

Yes, Teppan Edo still cooks at the table - it is similar, not exact to what it was (atmosphere is different). And yes, open to the public - I ate there Sunday night.

I too tried to get reservations here. I was told that Tokyo Dining does not accept reservations. If I remember correctly, the Matsu No Ma Lounge did not take them either...not sure about Tempura Kiku.

The seating in Teppan Edo is the same. The seating in Tokyo Dining is regular (smaller) tables.
