My family has been to WDW many times and we know our favorite restaurants. This upcoming trip we are going with friends. They have only been to WDW a few times, but that was over 9 years ago. They are letting me plan our schedule since they know how much I love the planning. We are going to spend two days in Epcot for this upcoming trip. I am trying to plan our restaurants. I have planned Le Cellier for our first Epcot day. However, I am unsure about the second day. I have it narrowed down to San Angel or Teppan Edo. I will be honest, we have NEVER eaten at Teppan Edo. We have eaten at San Angel. I loved the atmosphere and the food was good. I love Mexican food. My husband has recently started eating sushi. He loves it. I don't like it. I saw that the Teppan Edo restaurant also has grilled chicken and steak for those of us that don't like sushi. I was wondering about the atmosphere of the restaurant. Since we have not eaten there, I do not know what it is like. I am trying to figure out which to pick for our second Epcot day. Our friends may like the Mexico atmosphere better. I don't know?!?!? :confused3
Tell me about Teppan Edo.

I'm in teh same boat! Between Tappan Edo and San Angel. We havent eaten at either. The food at San Angel doesn't look too good on teh boards tho so we chose Tappan Edo, but I would also love to know what others think!

We have never eaten at San Angel, but I can tell you that Teppan Edo is fantastic! We tried it for the first time last trip. The food was delicious and it was a fun experience for the kids. (Adults also liked the umbrella drinks! :thumbsup2 )

We love Teppan Edo, it is a must do every trip. We were there in October shortly after it re-opened. The refurbishment is great. The new hoods over the grills are beautiful.
Do you realize that the tables are for 8, so you will be seated with 4 strangers? They are seats around a grill and the chef grills your meal right there in front of you. Depending on the chef, they are also very entertaining. There is sushi as an appetizer, but not on the dinner menu. The sushi for dinner is at Tokoyo Dining which is a separate restaurant in the same building. Teppan Edo is teppan - grilled meats, chichen, shrimp and scallops with noodles and vegtables. We love the food. The new salad is much larger than the old and it was very fresh. All in all it was a great evening.
We ate at the San Angel Inn too. I almost cancelled this ADR several times as it gets consistently bad reviews here on the DIS. But DH and DS wanted to eat there.
It was the surprise of the week. The atmosphere is wonderful. The food was delicious, the service was attentive but not overbearing. It is criticized for service - we did not experience this. Food - ours was delicious. Being too dark - it is dimly lit but this adds to the atmosphere. We were easily able to read the menus with the lamp on our table. Crowded - I did not notice it to be any more crowded than say Le Cellier.
All in all we will go back to the San Angel Inn.
I think either would be a good choice.
Sorry I am not more help!

Thanks for the information! I knew that the tables were for 8. We will have 7 in our party so I assumed we would have our own table.
I am leaning more towards San Angel at this point just because I know what to expect. I just thought that DH would be happy with a little sushi on this trip.

I haven't eaten at San Angels' Inn but I understand it does not get rave reviews.

We have eaten at Teppan Edo's and it was delicious and entertaining! The people we were seated with were all very nice, but even if they hadn't been there's no real pressure to have a conversation with the people you're seated with.

Please, please, please.... for the love of God, go to Teppan Edo. You could not pay me enough to go to San Angel again. I literally got sick from the food there, felt nauseous the rest of the night, DH did not like his at all either. Will never go back there again.

Teppan Edo!!! There is no comparison. We find something for everyone here. My husband and I split the filet and scallops since we can't choose just one. My sons love the chicken and shrimp combo. My husband enjoyed the saki sampler. We love this place! :) My family refuses to go back to San Angel. Bad experiences both times we tried it. Good luck.

Teppan Edo or Toyko Dining- they are both awesome!!!!

San Angel - just not into it- we've had good service but ehh on food-

I HATE San Angel Inn!

I LOVED Mitsukoshi Teppanyaki grill -- now Teppan Edo. It was closed last time I was there, & I was heart broken. It is a MUST for us.

The food has always been excellent and the show you get while the chef is preparing your food, is worth the price of admission!

Go for it! Try the Teppan Edo!

San Angel Inn is the only restaurant we HAVE to do every time we go. It is mostly the atmosphere that draws us over and over, however we do love the food. We are all huge Mexican food fans, so it suits our tastes. The dinner menu (in my opinion) is much better than the lunch, although both are good. I can say that as far as the service goes, we have had both good and bad... but mostly good and, as a previous poster said, not overbearing.

That said, we also love Teppanyaki and have been several times (although we haven't been since they renamed it Teppan Edo). It is a great show, but we have had similar shows at the Japanese steakhouse here in our home city. I love a good Japanese steakhouse anytime, anywhere. But, I would choose San Angel simply because that atmosphere is not something I can come close to replicating here at home. If you get there early enough, you can request a table by the water's edge. :thumbsup2 :thumbsup2 :thumbsup2 Unbeatable ambiance...

A side note: We have found since the DDP has been instituted at WDW that we need to ask for water as well as whatever we are getting as our "drink" at every TS restaurant because we don't get the kind of refill service we are used to at home :confused3 in ANY of the restaurants. If it's been hot out and you are extra thirsty, keep that in mind.

Good luck with your choice! :thumbsup2 :thumbsup2

Hmmm.........after reading all of the great reviews of Teppan Edo, I think maybe we should try to work both restaurants in! Thank you for all of your help, everyone! :thumbsup2 I knew that I could count on fellow DISers for help!

San Angel: mediocre mexican that is below average if you've lived anywhere in the southwest US.

Teppan Edo: an overpriced version of the near-ubiquitous teppan grill/japanese steakhouse genre.

If you don't have a japanese steakhouse near you, try Teppan Edo. If you do have one of those but live in a Mexican-challenged part of the world, try San Angel. If you know what good Mexican is supposed to be, and you have a neighborhood teppan grill, skip both.

Teppan Edo would get my vote. I've eaten one mediocre meal at San Angel and one that made me decide to never eat there again. The food was not good and the service was the worst I've ever experienced. I'm not a restaurant basher, there aren't any other restaurants at Disney I'll say this about.

Although I seem to be in the minority...YUM describes my feelings of both of these places. But, if I have to choose between the two, I think I would opt for Teppan Edo. I love Mexican food, but am a renowned hater of anything even remotely Asian. So, I was more than pleasantly surprised (and probably shocked) with Teppan Edo. The first time I was there was in February, and I ordered the scallops. They were delicious scallops (WAY better than most places here in the midwest). Honestly, the only meal I am looking forward to with anticipation in September when we return is Teppan Edo! I need me my scallops!

Now, that being said, I must admit that I am also a big fan of San Angel Inn. It is a must do for us each trip. However, it is really few and far between that I don't enjoy a Mexican food meal, but it has been known to happen. I do enjoy San Angel, though. I don't mind the food (not the best, but certainly far, far from the worst), and the atmosphere is great!

I think both restaurants are very different. So, you should choose based on what you think you would like most. If the atmosphere in Mexican dining is not important to you, then I would suggest eating at the Cantina and using your TS for Teppan Edo.
