I need help please! Can any one who has eaten at Teppan Edo advise if they offer Fried Rice as a side dish? We love Japanese Dining but also like fried rice with it. We are not much for the steamed rice. I checked with Disney Dining and the nice lady I spoke to wasn't sure and said I would have to wait until we got their to see.

Thank you,
Stacy

Yes. They do have Fried Rice, but I believe that it was considered an appetizer and was not included with the DDP.

Someone please correct me if I'm wrong on that point.

I do not believe they do. Technically, Fried Rice is more of a Chinese meal then a Japanese thing. According to the menu on Allears, there is no fried rice served. The entrees are served with vegetables, udon noodles, and steamed rice.

We ate at Teppan Edo earlier this month and I don't recall being given the option of fried rice with the meal. The plain white rice is bland, so I mixed in some of the sauces that they give you for the shrimp, chicken and beef to give it some flavor. :thumbsup2

Fried rice is a Chinese dish. Since Teppan Edo is a Japanese Restaurant you will not find it there.

No fried rice but I always pour some of the teriyaki dipping sauce they give you on the white rice to jazz it up.

No, they don't. Not a Japanese dish. You might be able to get brown rice (not 100% sure about that though).

The Teppan Edo restaurant at Epcot only offers steamed rice. No fried rice.

Japan does have a version of fried rice, so it is "a part" of Japanese cuisine. However, Japan has McDonald's, so technically a Big Mac is now a part of the Japanese cuisine.

I suspect the reason that Teppan Edo does not serve fried rice is that the word Edo refers to a period of time in Japan when much of the Japanese food culture was developed, in which only boiled rice was eaten.

I like fried rice better then steamed rice and really like the steam with my meal when I went there, I think you will enjoy it :santa:

Thank you all for your assistance- it was most helpful and only confirmed what I already suspected.

ok i am hijacking this but have a question. every japanese place i have been to cooks the rice on the hibachi. do they not do that here?

Nope, they do not cook any rice on the grill. They bring each person out a bowl of white rice with your meal.

thank you! i have never heard of that but hey what is new :) here they mix it with the veggies too.
