Teppan Edo or 'Ohanas? Or both?

Hello - we are planning our first trip for Dec 4th and are working out our ADR's. We were planning to go to 'Ohanas after our day at DHS. The park closes at 7 and we have an 8pm ADR. We have an ADR for Teppan Edo the day we are in Epcot. My question is, do you think the food at Teppan Edo and 'Ohanas are too similar, or different enough to keep both ADRs? My kids love hibachi places and any Asian food like the noodles, etc that are on the menu for 'Ohanas.

Another option would be to cancel Teppan Edo and get an ADR for Biergarten the day we are in Epcot. Looks fun, and would be something different for us as we have a hibachi place we go to at home. Also open to any other Epcot TS restaurants, if anyone has suggestions. My boys are 9, 9 and 7.

Other ADRs for the week are Crystal Palace for early dinner before MVMCP, Tusker house character breakfast for Animal Kingdom day and HDDR on our last night.

Appreciate any advice you can give - thank you!

Well, since you have hibachi type places at home, I would skip Teppan Edo. TE is more about the experience than the food. It'll be a 'been there, done that (for a lot more money at TE).'

Biergarten is a unique experience and I've always found the food to be very good. One of the better buffets in the World. The kids will like the entertainment, too.

Just my take.

Oh, one more thing. The food at TE and Ohana are really not ALL that similar. If you do decide to do both, I wouldn't equate them to be the same type of food choices.

I would agree to skip Teppan Edo since you have something like it at home. Ohana's is definitely unique, and completely different than Teppan Edo. It has excellent food and a really fun experience. When I'm there I really feel the vacation vibe (not like that's hard at Disney!) because of the island ambiance. The food is the best part though; all those wood fired grilled meats are to die for. And the bananas foster bread pudding is just perfect. If only my family had room for two...

We are doing both in August. I figured the "meat on a stick" shtick was different enough from the teppan style meal to keep my boys interested. I have been to Ohana a few times, and recommend the experience and food at least once. This will be our first time at Teppan Edo, however. Looking forward to it.

I don't think I'd ever compare Ohana and teppan .... they are completely different. So if you want hibachi go for it. Although I agree that if you have one at home I'd try something different.

Like others have said, the 2 are not very similar in food taste. We like both but we also love the Coral Reef.

Hands down if it were between Teppan and OHanas my family would always picked OHanas. My kids love the hula dancing, the singer remembers my kids always, they get leis, we sing along, do coconut races, etc. The food is wonderful, hands down some of the best in The World.

That being said, we always eat at Biergarten. Its one of our favs, for the atmosphere, and the food is enjoyable.

I LOVE the food at Teppan Edo. So yummy! I loved their steak far far better than at le cellier believe it or not! Their noodles are heavenly. So is their green tea pudding! YUM! Having said that, even thou its my fave place....if you've been to teppenyaki places back home, i'd go for something more unique like Biergarten.

And the PP's are right, ohana & teppan edo are nothing alike. very different.

:lovestrucI would do Ohana twice :) I have gone to Disney every year for the past 15 years and every time i have to make reservations at ohana.

We're doing both, as well. I think they are different enough that I enjoy both of them.

My 2 kids who are now 9 and 12 prefer Tepen Edo over Ohana. But they are not the type to want to join in the fun of Ohana with the parade and the food there was not as appealing to them as Tepen. They like asian style food above all other food choices so that is a major reason for us to return every year. Also, my son in particular looks to watch and not participate in activities so Tepen is perfect for him to see a show and enjoy good food, he eats the shrimp sauce like crazy -lol. We have Japanese steakhouses here too but they still want to go there instead of Ohana. To me food was great at both and atmospheres so different that if you can sqeeze them both in you may find a favorite between the 2 for yourself.

We are also doing both Ohana and Teppan Edo. We do have hibatchi places here also but DS 7 really enjoys it and it's more like comfort food for him while at WDW.

I've never been to either, nor have I been to WDW. I have an ADR for Teppen Edo for my first trip and I see a lot of people saying skip it if you have something like that at home.

I guess I don't understand that, is it that it's not any good, but a worthy experience if you can't get it near home? Also, even though we have a Benehana's close, the bill is close to $100 for two people so when you are on free dining even if it's only just as good, it's still an expensive meal we wouldn't otherwise do.

I've just never seen anyone say to skip Mamma Melrose if you live near an Olive Garden :-)

the experiences are different enough to do both plus if you know your group will like the food i'd say go for it. if you think the kids might be bored with teppan edo because they do this type of thing at home then for that reason i'd skip it.

We have reservations for both for our trip Nov 25-Dec 3. I would recommend, however, that you check asap on reservations if you intend to go to 'Ohana. They usually go very quickly!

Thanks everyone for your advice! I think I will keep both ADRs. I talked to the boys and my dh and they all agreed they would prefer Teppan to Biergarten. They absolutely love our hibachi place at home and are excited to go to one in "Japan". I can't wait to try 'Ohanas.

I haven't done Teppan Edo before b/c like previous posters have said, I can get the same thing at home. However, I have been to ohanas, and my family and I loved it! I would definitely suggest going there. :)

You eat what you like not because you have one or more back home. I like hibatchi so we eat their when we visit Epcot. I like meat on the Barbe so I like Ohanas. Its what you and your family likes that you should base your choise's on. I could say that I will not eat at Coral Reef because we have a Red Lobster here but I dont. Dinners can make a vacation just as special because of the time you have with your family. Do what yaul like and enjoy. Both places are good.
