Has anyone experienced Tepan Edo? We are going with 2 kids with allergies. DS(8) is allergic to milk, soy, egg, peanut, tree nut. DD (6) is allergic to milk and peanut.

DD has decided she would like to eat in Japan. I could go to Tokyo dining although Tepan Edo sounds like way more fun.

I'm also concerned about sharing a table/grill with another family because they may not be understanding that I would need the kid's food cooked without butter. I also don't want to take away from another's family's experience.

Anyone have thoughts or experiences?

Thank you!

When I went we were sat with a family that does not eat pork. so if anyone wanted pork it was prepared in the back then brought to the table. I believe they use oil on the tables to cook with so you should be fine there.

When we ate there, a woman has a shellfish allergy and something else that i did not hear clearly, but think was mushrooms. My view was that they were very careful.

Before the orders were taken, a server came around and asked each person individually if they had any allergies or food related issues that the chef should be aware of. Then they took the orders, asking again about allergies. Then, when the chef came out, he asked a third time and spent some time talking quietly with the woman who had allergies.

When he started cooking, he cooked the food first for the person with the allergies, so hers was cooked on a clean grill (more about cleaning later). Another person and I had shrimp, which he cooked on an area of the grill that was not very close to the person with allergies.
Each person got their own little bowls of condiments, so no chance that someone else would dip their items into that lady's condiments.

They did have squeeze bottles of some kind of oil that the chef used for cooking with. I don't know what kind of oil it was, possibly peanut, but maybe not since the grill is extremely hot and peanut oil does not hold up to heat well. They also used a squeeze bottle of something else - may have been soy sauce. I remember the chef did not use that bottle on the lady's food, so soy may have been an issue for her.
I highly doubt they would use butter, since that burns easily (and I don't think dairy products are used much in Japan).
At any rate, they should be able to accommodate your needs since they cook the allergy items first.

After cooking, they did a kind of cleaning ritual on the grill. It was scraped, rubbed, washed and rinsed repeatedly.

Pork may have been a different situation. Some people do not eat pork for religious reasons and would not be able to eat food cooked with or after pork. Unless an allergy was very severe, I think they would just cook the food first for the person with allergies as they did while I was there.

Teppan Edo is fantastic with food allergies. My kids have peanut, tree nut, and shellfish allergies. The manager, chef, and server were extremely helpful and careful making sure my kids' food was safe for them. The restaurant doesn't use peanut oil or serve peanut products, but the desserts have a "may contain" warning. I can't remember what type of oil they use. It may be canola. Soy sauce is used to season the noodles and meats.

We were advised to make an ADR for the first seating at lunch, because the grills are cleaned more thoroughly at night and less likely to have cross-contamination issues. The chef prepared my kids' food first and served them, since a couple at the table ordered shrimp. It wasn't a big deal, since shrimp cooks very quickly and is always cooked last. Everyone got their food within a few minutes, so don't worry that you're impacting negatively on someone else's experience. In your case, the chef would either prepare a portion of food without soy sauce and serve your kids' before everyone else, or have the kitchen prepare the food and bring it out. Adding soy sauce at the end isn't going to prolong the cooking process and force anyone to wait extra-long for their food.

Teppan Edo is one of my family's favorite places to eat at Disney. The kids love the show and appreciate how helpful the staff is with their allergies. You could email Special Diets and get clarification on the oil and procedures to ease your mind. Impress on them you need to know before making ADRs. They've been a little less than helpful lately, but if you're insistent, they step up.
