Im just pondering if many people still tent at the campgrounds or just use campers and whatnots. Im going down next week and since Ive got a dog. I have to camp in one of the big camper areas. I dont want to look completetly out of place with a small tent surrounded by campers. Thanks for any replys.

You will see all kinds of campers in those loops. You will see anything from large motorhomes to little tiny pup tents. I have seen campers that look like they are barely holding it together to brand spanking new ones. I have also seen some sites with 3-4 tents, a dining room with refrigerator microwave and water cooler all set up under an awning. People can get quite creative.

You will be just fine no matter what you are in. Just remember that you can't leave dogs alone in tents or popups. There is a kennel at FW that you can put them in during the day though.

Happy Camping!

We camp in December every year and have a grand time. We have a large tent with a screen porch and like to sit and watch folks. This last year the only problem we had was the folks next door who broght a dog with them (dogs aren't allowed in FT, but, people bring them anyway). They left the dog in a cage during the day and it barked constantly.

You will note that you can easily hear the sounds of the Train, Steamboat and the Electric Water Parade from your tent. Please plan accordingly.

Pets are allowed in the Fort, and have been for a few years now. Certain loops are designated as pet loops. Pets are not supposed to be left in tents or pop ups when the owners are not home, but unless the animal is loud or otherwise a problem and someone reports it to the desk not much will be done.

What's a whatnot and how do you camp in one?:confused3

Dogs have been allowed for many years, not just a few. My beagle is 10 this year and has camped every year at FW for his whole life. Other posters are correct that pets are not allowed unattended in tents or pop ups and pets are restricted to pet loops. For the most part, I have found the dogs in the pet loops to be better neighbors than many of the people.

We kennel our dog during the day. The kennels are very nice and clean - no "odor". The staff is excellent. Price is very reasonable. You are, however, required to walk your dog twice daily, and they do keep track of who is compliant and who is not.

Thanks for all the replys. As long as I dont get stuck smack in the middle of 2 huge campers, Ill survive either which way. As for putting the dog in the kennel. I think Id rather take them and put them in the kennels at each park, so it would be a lot easier for me to just hop out and take care of him.

Dogs are allowed to be left in hard-sided travel trailers, right? We've asked for a pet loop.

Sorry for the hijack,

Jennifer

Yeah, as long as they aren't barking and disturbing neighbors.

I stand corrected:thumbsup2

That indeed was the problem, we were in a no pet loop (on purpose), and the pet barked constantly.

Reporting did no good.

I've camped in 3 different loops in a tent, and yes we are the minority. Well, if getting stuck between 2 big campers is going to annoy you, you might want to get a sight in the tent area. We got a preferred sight this year, even with our tent, and I think it was worth it. The Fort is a BIG place, getting close to the marina will save you alot of time getting around. The big rigs don't bother me, if you got it flaunt it! I'm just a former boy scout and have 5 daughters. This is about as roughing it as they can take! You'll probably have fun no matter what, Fort Wilderness is a magic place!
