Tent Stakes

Leaving for our first trip to the for tomorrow and just thought of something. They have sand pads there correct? Will my regular stakes be ok? Should I get the special sand ones? I don't want to put out the extra money the night before only to get there and find out my regular old ones would have worked. However I also don't want my tent blowing away. Tent was WAY more expensive than the best sand stakes

you didn't say what kind of stakes your tent came with....the short thin ones won't work....I'd got for the long metal ones...not too costly at Wally World

I have 2 different ones I use,

This kind:

I would think the second ones might work better and if you can find the yellow fiberglass ones that are like a foot long and have a triangle shape might be good for like the corners with the others along the sides. Sorry, but I'm not a tenter so listen to others over me in what I'm saying.

It is more than just sand. It is a sand/shell mixture called coquina and holds tent stakes very well. I have about 3 different kinds of stakes (depending on the tent/awnings I bring) and they have all held well.

The stakes you have will be perfect. My tent came with the yellow plastic ones.....and that "sand" was so freakin hard in some areas...that my rubber mallot broke as well as 2 of the stakes.......the trding posts did not sell rubber mallots, so I had to pound my remaining stakes in with a frying pan!!!!And simply was not able to stake down my screen house at all because I had to use some of the stakes for the tent, and the front of the sand pad was simply TOO HARD for plastic stakes anyway. All was well...we tied the screen house down and it worked out well.

I have also hit tree roots under the sand. I like the metal ones because they will bend , but not break like the plastic ones.
