Tent camping?

I'm looking into tent camping and I've got some questions....Is it possible to tent camp at Ft. Wilderness in Feb.? Too rainy? Too many storms? How far ahead will I have to reserve a campsite before they fill up?? We've been to disney many times but we've never camped there......I'm just not sure about it.

Weather is unpredictable, so part of camping means taking the risk. We went camping with two little ones (2,3). It was fun, but not as easy as just having a nice hotel room. At night it got really cold. The kids were really bundled up but I sure suffered. It also rained while we were there. The tent held up pretty well and did not leak. Overall, it was worth it. The fort is awesome

Occasionally my husband and I play the "what's the cheapest way we could go to WDW" game and wonder if it would be possible to carry a tent, sleeping bags, and the barest necesities in a couple suitcases on the plane.

Good question about the weather. We've had a couple cold Feb days that would not be pleasant in a tent.

Remember you said you have been to disney many times ........ but NEVER had CAMPED there ............ KEEP IT THAT WAY .......... and Enjoy the trip !! I know , people like to camp ( not me ) but WHY put yourself through that pain and agony while at Disneyworld , when there are Sooooo many Nice Resorts to stay at ?? Oh boy , I am gonna hear it now from all the Die Hard Campers out there ......... BUT .......... Spend a Few Bucks and get a Nice DRY Room for your Family ........... Mickey would !!!

If you enjoy tent camping and are good at it, then camping at Fort Wilderness is a great thing!!!

Tent camping at the Fort is definitely doable; many on this board do it quite often. Do a search on it and you will find all kinds of helpful tent camping information!

After staying at FW last fall, my kids and I decided we would rather stay at FW than a WDW hotel from now on. In fact, we had planned on borrowing my parents' camper last month and staying at FW again. Though things didn't work out with their camper, I offered to stay at a value, but my daughter declined. She said she would rather wait and stay at the Fort!! I have just about decided if that man God gave me doesn't get me a camper soon, I'll be in the market for a tent myself.

Always better to reserve as early as possible. The Fort fills up very quickly - especially if you're going during a busier period (holiday, spring break...) IIRC if you're doing "room only" you can reserve by phone 499 days in advance and only need to pay one night's site fee to hold your reservation.

Is there any privacy between the tent sites? Ive been to some campgrounds where its like an open field for tents.

There are trees all around the campground. Go to Youtube and type in Fort Wilderness loop and you can see vids that (and I may be wrong) Shanman recorded of the campground for his Google Map project.

I'm glad you don't like to camp, that leaves more campsites available for those of us that DO like to camp

Walmart had a 20x10 tent right now for 119 that I am looking at. I have their 89 one that is 16x9. The 16x9 fits 2 twin mattresses, a full mattress, a camping mat and a bin for our clothes with room to walk around. All we do is sleep in it anyway.

If you decide to tent it. Carol has awesome advice. Switching back to a tent after a TT actually hasn't been that bad, although I am still dreaming of a popup.

If we have not found a popup or hybrid that we like and in our price range by spring, I will get a tent until we find something. I want to camp so bad I can't see straight. I've put in HOURS looking at Carol's and others' advice on tent camping. They are my heroes.
