Hi all, we are a newbie family to camping... Ok, actually I haven't been camping in about 20 years and my DH is not a camper at all. But, I have been wanting to take the family tent camping for the past 2 years and DH has finally agreed we'll do it this summer! :cool1:

Now, we plan on doing a few weekend trips closer to home first, but I'd love to do a week at the Fort! July or August seems like the only time the whole family can go, so my questions are:

1. Is the heat just too much in July or Aug. for tent camping?

2. Is there a way to set up A/C in a tent?

3. Would 2 13x10 dome tents fit on a site?

Thank you!

1. No. We tent camped 4th of July week in '04 without a/c, and we survived. We didn't have any kids at the time, though, and we were used to summer tent camping.

2. Yes. I'm not sure how, but others can tell you. Also, do a thread search. I think that there's a thread around here that's a "how-to guide".

3. I'm not real good with dimensions/measurements, but I don't see why they wouldn't.

The tent loops are full of tent campers in July and August, so there are many folks who would say that it's not too hot to tent camp in the summer.

Lots of folks use air conditioners in their tents. I agree with Yodagirl, try out the search feature and search for trip reports and for how-to threads on how to hook up an air conditioner to a tent. Here's a couple of posts with photos that I found with a quick search:

I know that there are a ton more photos of air conditioners and tents if you look around.

If you want to set up two 13' x 10' tents on one site, I would say be sure to reserve a partial hook up site, and ask for the 2000 loop. The tent pads on the 2000 site average about 30' deep and about 18' wide. The tent pads on the 1500 loop sites are a bit smaller, and several have obstructions that would impede setting up two large tents. DO NOT book a higher level site (full, preferred or premium), as those have a smaller tent pad, or in the case of premium sites, no tent pad at all.

Much appreciated!

You'll have to decide what it doable for your family.

We live here, and I plan camping trips for our Cub Scout pack each month. We do NOT camp May-September because 1/2 the people won't go because it's too hot. The half that do go no matter what... then spend the weekend complaining it's too hot to be camping. :rotfl:

So I've learned my lesson after 2 years of being the Activities Chair and camping in May, June, July, August, and September are off the table!

That said....I personally would consider it with A/C or good fans. :)
