Hi! I'm new here (but Disney fanatics no less--been to all, five parks!) and we're planning a trip to the US this summer. My sister is interning at WDW and we were hoping to visit her, but are also trying to keep costs down. I hadn't thought of camping at the park, until I saw a thread on another site. We're tenting it several other places, would it be crazy to try and tent it late July/early August? Also, are barebones camp sites difficult to get? What are the costs? I was looking at the WDW site and all I was able to find prices for were the cabins.

Hi. We're avid Ft. Wilderness tent campers, and we have to visit WDW in the summer because I teach. It's absolutely NOT crazy to tent camp in FL in the summer, however, we always bring a window a/c. Don't know if that's possible for you, but if you can, then definitely pitch that tent at Ft. Wilderness.

Here are the prices for a tent site. I think they are current & prices are plus tax.

Regular Weekday
July 5-Aug 14
$63
Regular Weekend
July 5 - Aug 14
$66
Value Weekday
Aug 15 - Oct 7 $44
Value Weekend
Aug 15 - Oct 7 $47

If you can afford it, I would do as recommended above & rent a unit with an air conditioner.

Be advised that the time of year you plan to be in Orlando (late July or early August) the weather is very HOT and HUMID with frequent afternoon rain showers. The humidity makes everything feel damp all the time. A portable A/C unit might make it manageable but it's not without some risk. But you are welcome to try it and best of luck to you.

Thanks for all the suggestions and encouragement! I live outside Tokyo so I know hot and humid. Now, do we want to camp in it? At least we can keep it open as an option and the price doesn't sound bad to be able to be on the property. (need to see if my sister can work out any discounts for us.)
