Tent Camping in end Dec/beg Jan.

We are going to WDW for my DGS birthday Dec 30 - Jan 7. I thought it would be cute for him and Daddy to have a campout night (or 2) while we are there (Grandma will stay at the hotel so this will truely be a "boys experience" ) We would have to borrow a tent, air mattresses, etc. We do have blankets and sleeping bags. I picture them mainly sleeping, campfiring, etc at the site and showering, eating, etc at the hotel.

How cold/warm will the overnight temps be (I know you can't guarantee but what is normal???)

Does this sound like something a turning 7 year old would like? I know he has asked to go camping in the past month or so.

Is it worth the trouble of putting up the tent and taking it down for just a night or two?

We drive so will have room for extra gear.

This is a great idea!

A 6 almost 7 year old boy will love the Fort.

I don't think this would be a whole lot of work for a night or two.

In general, the weather should be great. It may get a little cold at night, but it is never too cold to camp at the Fort.

I'm not sure that you will have a lot of luck getting a site at this time of year-a lot of the schools are still on winter break, so I would guess that the Fort is probably booked solid already.

You can hit the www.weather.com (weather channel) web site for orlando, pull up the average temps, choose the "table" display, and click on "january" to get daily highs/lows, etc. When I ran the Disney Half Marathon in early Jan 2002 it was 39 degrees at the 6am start time. So use "cold but comfy" as a guide for night but watch the web site right before you arrive for more accurate forecasts. Daytimes are very pleasant mostly (70-ish)...
