Hi Campers,

How uncomfortable is tent camping in June at The Fort?. Is it do-able with fans at night time? Would like to camp in early June---the kids are early teens so not really too worried unless it just too uncomfortable to sleep.
Any tips would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

We were at Fort Wilderness in early June last year and the heat was almost unbearable. Although we were in an RV with air, I could not imagine sleeping in a tent during this time. If it were me, I would back the trip up about a month. Is it possible to go in May? It might be less expensive then also.

I will be staying there, July fourth weekend, just get a nice strong fan for night time, sleep light and you will survive

The only other caveat is that the deerflies come out in June.. They are like horseflies. They bite and leave nasty welts so bring repellent.

We used to campout at the Fort on weekends in June. It was cold for me but thats because DH had an airconditioner rigged up in our tent. I am also from Oklahoma which is a much hotter place than Florida.

We are tenting from May 10 - May 19. We are bringing a portable air conditioner that is on wheels. We use it at home in my son's room and vent it via 2 hoses out a window. The hose are about 6" in diameter.

Sooo - will post back and let you know how it is working.

The tent loops don't shut down in the summer or winter, so staying there either time must be do-able. It all depends on your prep and comfort level expected.

We've tent camped at Ft Wilderness in June, July, and August. Yes, you will need a fan or two! (It's the humidity as much as the heat that is uncomfortable; the fans will help with that too). You also need to prepare carefully for the rain. We're not talking just "rain"... we're talking DELUGE. For us, the rain is the larger consideration in the Summer months. If you're prepared for the weather, you'll do fine.
