I have been having problems with a terrrible back ache when I get up in the morning. DH said its time to buy a new mattress, ours is almost 20 years old. I would like to hear from those that have a Tempurpedic or a Sleep Number bed. What price can I expect to pay?

We bought a sleep number bed about 10 years ago. we paid $1500 for a queen. I didn't really care for it. If your sleep numbers vary a lot between you and hubby, don't expect to be able to snuggle, each side of the bed has it's own bladders so you can pump or deflate according to your preference, in between is what I liked to call the "great divide" no snuggling for us!!! I liked my side very soft so I was in a valley, DH liked his firm so I had to go "uphill" to get to him, he had to roll down, it was funny at first but really grated on our nerves after awhile.

We now have a wonderfull mattress, sadly I don't remember the manufacturer, but it has a temperpedic (sp?) type pillow top I LOVE it!!! It's just enough cushion for both of us.

I've heard but, not my experience that the all foam mattresses get a little warm since you've created your indention and then surrounded by foam??? Not sure, maybe other who own them can comment but my foam top doesn't make me hot or retain heat that I've noticed...

heres a tip..

i bought a foam mattress on overstock.com for about 350 (queen) i believe the king is about 450. shipping is only one dollar. . and the "foam" matress is the same as the temperpedic. . if you buy temperpedic you are paying for the name. but go on the website, its the same exact thing , they have so many that they can deep discount it. foam is the way to go!!!!!!!! i fall asleep so quick , and its the best. and its cheaper to buy the foam than it is to buy a regular matress. . its the best.

Thnaks for the tips. The thing with the Temperpedic is they let you try it out for 30 nights. But I don't want to pay for a name. I will check overstock!

yea i understand, but its only 300 bucks. i was hesitant at first, but just go to the local store and lay on one lol. you will notice the difference quick && will fall in love with it!:wizard:

We bought a Temperpedic about a year ago. The prices start at about $900-$1000 for their Original mattress in a full and go up from there. We bought the base model & found that it does mold to your body with your body heat, but IT IS SOOO HOT! And that's with a thin mattress cover and sheet on top of the mattress. The only solution was to buy a duvet to lay on top of the mattress to keep cool---BUT then the mattress doesn't mold to your body the way it is meant to...

And the Original mattress is very hard. We were told it would get less dense the more we slept on it, but so far it is still too hard for our liking...

My advice: If you do Temperpedic go with the upgraded models that offer the extra cushioning on top--they were softer. But also be warned that it may not solve the heat issue...

We have had a sleep number bed for about nine years now. We LOVE it! DH has a bad back and his PT told him it was one of the best things he could do for himself.

For the queen, wireless remote, pillow top, etc., I would expect to pay about 2 grand. However, it is guaranteed for life.

We've had both, I hated the Sleep Number and I felt the bed move everytime DH would roll over or the dogs jump on or off. We bought the TempurPedic last winter and I LOVE it. It was a little more stiff at first but not anymore, the smell is what I noticed for the first month, but now it is gone as well. My Chiropractor said he loved his and has recommended them for years. My neck is no longer hurting every morning and I feel nothing moving the bed. It gets warm where you lay but not so much that you can't stand it. Kind of nice in the winter if you get up to go to the bathroom! Friends of ours refused to pay for the "name" and got one online for a lot cheaper, six months later it has indentations and it is not even close to being like the real one. We didn't get the cheapest model, but not the one with the pillow top since it seemed like you wouldn't get the same effect. DH likes a firmer bed and I like a softer one, this one we both love, it's the best money we ever spent! We bought ours at a furniture store in town, they aren't allowed to discount them (TempurPedic rules) but we got the free pillows and saved 5% for not financing it.

ive had mine for 2 yrs. .
the ones are on overstock ARE TEMPERPEDIC. they say on the matress as well as the pillows they just cant put the name on the website. so its the best investment. saved me 2 grand lol
