On Friday there were research CMs counting the number of people on the ferryboats as well as both monorail loops at MK. After some investigation, I found out that for a period of time(I'm trying to get dates) monorails will not be running from 11-18:30 on a daily basis. During that time, additional bus transportation will be available. I can also theorize that a third ferryboat will be in operation during that time, but that is my speculation, not fact.

The reason for the change is for the DVC construction at Disney's Grand Floridian Resort minus Spa. They apparently need to operate a crane and can't do so with the monorails running. However, since they have to be down for construction, Disney is taking the opportunity to do some work on the electrical systems of the monorail during that time frame.

i'll update when I get dates, or maybe someone else has them.

Thanks :thumbsup2 When I drop people off at GF I always say "welcome to Disney's Grand Floridian Resort minus Spa" no one ever gets it though. Oh well.

on the flip side, I do "welcome aboard Disney's Richard F Ivrine and Spa...they took the spa from the Grand and put it on the boat" One of these days I'll get someone who understands it.

Anyway, I don't have dates yet. Trying to get them but sources get mysteriously quiet when I ask too many questions LOL

I have to say I am on Disney's side on this one. They need to have time to work on the new units. It will be interesting to see if Disney offers anything when they reduce the hours besides the boats and busses.

they are also having problems with the track between the grand and mk during cold months. they have to go slow on that section and reduce the load they said they don't know how long it take to fix it. it a problem with the metal teeth that connects them. so may be they could do some work at the same time to take advantage of the time they have.

I am guessing that this would only affect the resort monorail, right? Not the one from TTC to MK or Epcot...that rail doesn't go near the GF, right?

it will effect the resort and express monorail to mk it will not effect the epcot line.

^ That's interesting.

I can remember WAY back when the GF was being built. The monorail would slow way down ON PURPOSE in front of the construction site. Happy music would play over the monorail's speaker system, and a narrator's voice would call attention to the site, all while speaking of how wonderful Disney's new flagship resort and wedding pavilion was going to be...

You had to sit through this presentation EVERY time you were taking the monorail from The Poly or the CR, and after a few days it got very old, believe me.

I wonder if the two are somehow related.

i was their in feb and when it after leaving the grand it played an automated announcement said we have to operate at a reduced speed thanks for your patience. thought it was strange but their was an express train also going slow past us. then got home and read on twitter about them having problems with that part of the track during the cold months and they will have to fix it but not sure how long it will take. so it made sense to the twitter story because they was going slow on that part of the track and regular speed on the rest of the track.

The issue with the track isn't something new, it has gone on for years, but that was before the accident and the constant scrutiny that has resulted from it. This is completely unrelated to any of that and given the expansion/contraction happens with the weather, I doubt there is anything they can do to fix it. Past experiences regarding them going slow when it's not cold are likely nothing more than the result of a bad cycle. Some pilots will speed right up to a hold point while others opt to slow down in order to keep forward motion in hopes that the train ahead clears before they get to the hold point. Boats do the same thing, we go slow when on top of the cycle to keep the illusion that we're making progress.

The closure would be for both express and resort loops since express loop is...5 feet from the resort loop.

Again, I want to stress this is temporary, related only to DVC construction, and is only from 11-18:30 each day. I don't have final dates yet(and even the times are not final) so until it is officially published, it's all subject to change.

I agree. I think this makes total sense and I am glad to hear they are explaining the REAL reason, and it's not due to "guest demand."

The construction will take quite some time, but I imagine the cranes will only be needed for a portion of it.
I still expect this to several last months at the very least.

All in the name of progress though. :thumbsup2

well once again the friendly bus drivers will have to bail out the monorail cms and monorails. Once they put the new nova buses on the mk resort routes they will be able to handle the extra load so guest my not miss the monorails. :thumbsup2

Is it thought that this will be soon, or down the road? Would they do it in July? One of the busiest months of the year? :confused3

One of the busiest? LOL it's easier to just label...September as the only month that ISN'T busy.

No, I don't know when or what dates or for how long. However, I don't think they are going to do it around volume. It has to be done when construction calls for it.
