My DBF tore some ligaments the day before we left. We are here now and have an ECV rented from Apple to be delivered to our resort, AKL.

How will they handle this at rides? Do we need a GAC? Do we go through the regular lines or use the exits instead? We are a party of 4. Will we all be able to go through the lines together and ride as a group?

TIA!

Most of the lines are mainstreamed so you can just join the regular line. You don't need a GAC unless you have other issues besides just needing the ECV. The GAC is for invisible disablities while the EVC will make it clear to the CMs that you need alternate access at certain rides. You may be pulled out of the regular line and directed to an alternate area if you DBF can still walk a short distance.

You can pick up a handicap map at GS or at the front of each park. You'll still be able to ride together as the ECV party is the ECV user and up to 5 guests. Relax, the CMs will direct you on where to go. Disney magic will prevail. Make sure you decorate the ECV someway some you can remember which one is yours in case DBF decides to walk a bit.

There's some really good info on the sticky. I'd post a link to it but I'm typing this on my phone.

I have gone to Disney with a temporary disability, had an ECV, could transfer out of it, but was still visibly injured once I got up.

Many of the rides were mainstreamed particularly in the newer parks. The CMs were very good to tell me what I needed to do when I did not go through the regular lines.

Spaceship Earth was the least obvious as you enter on the left side of the big golf ball towards the rear.

A CM at one of the attraction in MK gave me 2 different sets of instructions. When I first rolled up, the CM told me to get off the ECV and walk around the moon so to speak. When she saw my husband helping me off the ECV and my putting my arms across his shoulders...the instructions suddenly changed. That was either at Pirates or the Country Bears. Keep in mind...Pirates of the Caribbean is not set up for disabled guest very well AT ALL. I think hubby pushed me in a wheel chair to the boat ramp...and a different wheel chair was waiting for me at the end of the ride. We then took an elevator to the top and exited the back of the building. We then went all the way around the building back to the ECV.

I did not ride any roller coasters due to the nature of my injury. There is a really weird jungle cruise boat that allows you to ride it in your ECV. I used it because stepping up and down more than a foot was going to be painful and well...I was curious to how the heck they could put an ECV on a jungle cruise boat. Let's just say...you will stand out!

The special fireworks viewing areas was a fantastic bonus!

There will be a CM stationed outside the rides - he should spot your husband's ECV, ask if he can transfer out of it to ride, and then direct him where to go. (It will vary from ride to ride, and it may also vary for the same ride on the same day, depending on factors like crowd level.)

You can even preview the disability guides online. I'm pretty sure they are on the Disney World site (look at the bottom menu) and at allears.
