Tempature Question

My daughter is 8 and does not sweat. Now that means she can always wear silk;) but it also means she does not regualte her body tempature right. She over heats very very easy.

This past week we went to the Zoo and since it was the first hot day (82) we have seen in months, we live in Ohio. She got over heated, pretty mild, a ice pack and ice water in some shade and she got her cooled off.

Well I was wondering if I can pack those emergancy Ice packs in my purse just in case, you know the ones your break and shake and they are cold. Or if I bring Zip lock bags and ask for some ice from a vendor would they give me some? Or will I have to call for the first aid people to get a ice pack?

We don't want to carry around 6 bottles of ice water all day only to have it warm up by the time she need it so we are good with paying for the over priced water in the park. Or can I ask for a cup with (OMG no!!) Tap water and ice. They have carts and counters with cold items all over right?

Any advice to help? we are planning on visiting April 29th and are not staying on property so going back for a afternoon swim won't help. But we are okay with leaving to go sit in some air conditioning restraunt or shop and cool her off.

I don't have a definitive answer but I cannot imagine the cart vendors turning you down if you have a small Ziploc baggie and ask for a scoop or two of their ice to cool down your overheated child. I wouldn't expect to get a cup from them because they aren't serving in cups, just the water and soda bottles. But if you carry around some baggies, that might help.

I'm honestly not sure where you'd get tap water.

I think the emergency ice packs wouldn't be a problem at the security check, either. They are looking for glass bottles and the like, according to what the guy at one entrance told me.

Good luck!

I'm sure you can get the emergency icepacks through security. They never say anything when I carry my insulin in a ice pack kit. I think ziplocks are a great idea. Remember some on those vendors don't open until 11:00 so take enough icepacks or cool water until then. Also check the maps for water fountains, they are all over the park.

I would definitely take the ice packs! The worse they could do, is tell you that you can't take those in, but I can't imgaine them doing that. And if so, explain your daughter's situation; it really shouldn't be an issue. As backup, I would take the baggies. The stores are always cool, so that's always good to know. I hope it's good weather when you guys go so you can have enjoyable experience!!!

Like the PPs said, there shouldn't be any problem with you taking the ice packs along. You can get ice water at any of the CS places. The Troubador Tavern will only give ice (no water) - at least that's what we were told several weeks ago. Also, the first aid stations in both parks are great. We go to them regularly for a different reason but they would be great for helping your DD get out of the heat. I'm sure they have ice and they have lots of bed/cot things for people to rest on if she needed to. Hope that helps and have a great trip!

Also, First Aid will have ice cold papery (almost fabric like) clothes they keep in ice for guest to use on hot days.:sunny: So, if it's a hot day they may already have them on the counter. If not, you can get ice, they have it.

Also, we get ice and water at many food locations throughout both parks. One of the best places to get ice is at Schmoozies in Hollywoodland in DCA. The ice is semi-crushed.

You are allowed to bring in some food and beverages into the parks. When we bring a stroller I carry a small collapsible ice chest with ice in it as well as Diet Cokes (in cans). You can't bring in anything in glass. And of course any weapons. That's all they really check for. If I don't have a stroller I carry in my own styrofoam cup (Sam's is good!) with ice and soda in in. Then, I carry a few more cans in my Baggalini (this is one warm/hot days). I get ice throughout the parks and pour in my own soda. DD10 gets ice water and pours it in her water bottle she carries on a strap. Sometimes she adds a flavor tube as well.:cloud9:

I don't think you'll have a problem bringing in cold packs. Also, how about a mister fan? Pick up one before you get there to save money. :woohoo:

One cool place to take a break is in the Animation Building. It has padded benches and nice air conditioning. :)

First off keep her hydrated with water or an electrolyte type drink such as gatorade. Kids will say they are not thirsty yet have been out in the sun without a drop for hours. Next thing you know they're feeling sick.

A small mister works great for spraying face, hair and neck. Works great to keep cooler.

Stay with Disneyland if going in the summer. Don't even think about Disneyworld in the summer as its HOT and HUMID!

Thanks guys for the advice. Glad to see you can get Ice in the park.

We do keep her drinking water and have made sure she understands that she needs to tell us if she is getting to hot even if that means getting out of line, we would rather take a hour break than have to go to the ER and not make it back to the park.

I don't know if we will ever be able to do Disney World..maybe in Feb. because of the heat. This trip is a dry run to see how she does.

She has a misterfan but it really doesn't seem like it helps her much. I need to get a waterbottle stap thing thats a great idea so she does not need to hold the bottle all day.

I made our own. Even made some for DD's Girl Scout Troop.Easy to make and cost effective too!

The instructions call for 2 no-sew dungaree buttons but you can also save some money but sewing the ends together by machine. I've done it both ways. When DD10 was younger I made hers a little shorter than the instructions called for. I got all our supplies at WM but now that they've taken out the fabric department I would have to go to Joanne's (or maybe Michaels).

The strap makes a great place to wear pins or buttons. :goodvibes

DD wears hers all the time when we go to DLR or WDW. Makes it easier for me, one less thing to carry. Also, we are going on a field trip tomorrow to a local apple farm and she'll use hers. I'll probably bring mine as well.

Have a great trip!

Here she is wearing one last Sept. at AK in WDW.

We also take a couple collapsible lunch boxes/coolers. What we generally do is freeze some water bottles and keep the others in the fridge at our hotel. When we go to the park, we do half and half of the bottles. The non frozen ones stay cold from the frozen ones, and the frozen ones thaw by mid morning/early afternoon and you have cold water. I dehydrate easily and then pass out so I always have to have water. I am sure taking in all the supplies you need should be no problem!

Have fun!!

Thinking some more... you may even want to consider purchasing a Foogo Stainless Steel Straw Cup or a Thermos FUNtainer. I purchased my little one's Foogo at Babies R Us (also available at Toys R Us) and my sister just purchased a Pixie Hollow FUNtainer at Walmart yesterday for around $12.00. I find it very useful for a day at the park, as it keeps my little one's milk cold all day long. I believe they're 12 ounces and they keep the liquid cold for 12 hours!

My DH overheats also.
He loves the chiller cups at the park (like slurpees).
ask any CM where the nearest cart is.

There are filtered water taps in the parks.
One at Zocalo in the seating area.
Great for refilling your water bottle.

We did WDW in early Dec and it was great!

I'm sure you've tried those 'soak in water neck bandana' thingys? :confused3
They work great here in So Az.:thumbsup2

We went to Disneyworld once in Feb. and loved it. Most days were really nice, high 60's-low 70's. Perfect weather.

Thats what I was thinking. Cool and no crowds, sounds perfect to me. I have no problem taking my kids out of school.
