Temp control at AKL

I read on a recent thread about the thermostats being controlled at AKL so that the room temps couldn't go below 68. I, too, would find that temp uncomfortable for sleeping. For anyone who has stayed there, what has been your experience? Have you been able to control the thermostat/ room temps?

I don't remember how low you can set it but I do remember that the thermostat is motion-activated so when you are out all day at the parks the a/c does not come on! (The bellhop told me about this.) We kept ours on about 70º but it was always uncomfortable in the room after being out for the day. This was in early June.

I was comfortable at night (and I like it on the chilly side) so don't know if they rig it where it runs at night while you're in bed (no motion) or what.

I thought it was pretty cheesy not to be able to control your room temperature better at a deluxe resort! :p But I absolutely loved everything else about this resort. :)

I had wondered why no matter how low I turned the thermostat the room sometimes seemed warm. I was able to cool it off at night however (in August). I'm pretty picky about being hot or cold and I was able to deal with it fine.

There was one morning I got up...our first morning there actually...and it seemed like the A/C in all the public areas of the resort had been off over night. It was roasting everywhere...the lobby and Mara. Fortunately it was only like that one morning!

I just got back last night and had no problems with the thermostat. It was a chilly 65 degrees upon check-in, which was actually too cold for me. We usually kept it at 67 or 68 if we were just hanging out in the room, and at 70 while sleeping. Maybe they have different thermostats in different rooms? But there was no problem setting it below 68 in ours (3rd floor, zebra trail).

We were there in August and I don't remember how low the thermostat could go. We didn't set it too low at night because our baby won't keep a blanket on her.

However, there were times when we would come back from the parks (and it was blazing hot at that time) and the room would be freezing. We'd open up the balcony door to quickly warm things up in the room. I think the maid would turn down the thermostat when she cleaned the room.
