Why at 42 yrs. old, am I sitting here listening to the music of the various DW parks, why I love going to this place more than any other place I've ever been to, why I love the planning and anticipation as much as the trip itself, why leaving is so incredibly sad that we start planning a new trip once I get home, why I love WDW more than any 8 year old kid. Nope, I'm not cracking up, but just want to know why I, and you, are so addicted to this "place"? Remember in "A Charlie Brown Christmas", when he needed to know the real reason, well, that's what I want from all of you, not the obvious responses, but what you think it is that makes us all so flakey about this piece of swampland in central Fla. Okay I confess, this is slightly induced by the effects of a really nice Riesling, but hey, we're pretty much all adults here. Let me have it, be creative, be deep, be philosphical, humerous, whatever.

It's a mix for me. First is the nostalgic feeling I get everytime we drive under that sign. I am immediatly back to 1970's having a great non-stressful time with my family(few and far between so I savor the good ones) Then it is the absolute joy in watching my kids get to experience it. It is all about capturing a feeling so clearly.

It's my place to de-stress and relax. I get to eat some excellent meals and stay in a fabulous resort. It's just us - me, husband and son - unless we add a family member or two. Plus, with DVC, we don't have a hotel bill when we check out.

I don't get any 2AM phone calls saying there is a leak in the hospital or the air conditioning is on the fritz in the OR. I don't even check in on the computer that much while I'm on vacation.

I have about 130 days until we go again. We went twice this summer, just because we could.

We're busy "Makin' Memories".

I have rewritten this too many times! I think of something, and it looks really stupid when it's written down! But it does have to do with the feeling of going back home, to a time of no worries and where they make everything ok.

I just know you can't explain it to anyone else--you either are, or you aren't. That's why I love this site! Lots of people like me. Maybe it's a recessive gene...

BUT...I always tease DH that there are "Happy" subliminal messages in the background music at the parks!

I've thought about this alot myself. For me, I think it is the fantasy that appeals to me. I never went to Disney as a kid and I was 41 by the time I made my first trip, so I don't have the childhood memories. I love the feeling of leaving all my regular day to day problems and frustrations behind. I guess that could happen anywhere on vacation, but Disney does such a good job of giving you a total sensory experience. The real world just doesn't intrude (for me anyway). Sight, sound (music), smell - everything is beautiful, happy, and serene.

There is a certain predictability that probably appeals to me, too. I can do new things each trip, but my old favorites are still there. Attractions may change, but Main Street will still be there.

For me, it goes back to the days before we had a million channels on TV. When we LIVED for Sunday night and Wonderful World of Disney. It was such pure magic, adventure, escapism, fun. And to think there's actually a place where that old feeling comes alive! :cloud9:

When you're at WDW, you don't need to put on airs for anybody, you can just plain enjoy the kid in you - and we all hopefully still have a child inside our old, tired bodies. :teeth: :flower:

It's the magic. In my opinion the world is divided into two groups of people. Those who "get it" and those who "don't". I'm so glad I'm one who "gets it"..

Where else can you get the service that you get consistently at WDW and it's a place completely commited to giving families wonderful memories and experiences. I tear up at all of the music. If I concentrate hard enough I can hear and smell certain areas of the park.

I love it!!!!

Thanks for your responses, I needed it. I live in a resort beach town in South Jersey, and tonite I reached my boiling point with the tourist horde. Labor Day is a little over two weeks away, and my next Poly visit is only 49 days away, I'm really glad to hear others feel the same way about WDW as I do. My family first went in June of "72", and then every other year until 1981. I was back in "92", then not again until last Oct. "04". I remember as a kid, when we would get home from WDW, I would ask my Dad when we could go back, and there was no internet then, all I could do is look at photos, and the few super 8 movies we had taken. For me personally, there's really no place that makes me happier.

Yep. Sunday night and Wonderful World of Disney. Family T.V. night. Popcorn and good times.

When I go to WDW I relive old memories and make new ones. I remember when my parents were younger and enjoyed taking us to all the attractions. Now I've enjoyed taking them and showing them what's new and what's the same. Hope to do it many more times together.

I can't wait to take our kids!

I lived only 40 minutes from Disney when it was built, but didn't go until 1975 - on a date with my future DH! We spent a wonderful day at MK (the only park), ate dinner at the Contemporary (I don't know what the restaurant was called then, I think it's where the Concourse Steakhouse is now...maybe that was the name way back then? It was very romantic. I was mesmerized by all the sights and sounds and felt like a wide-eyed child even though I was 17. I was trying to be cool though.

Since then we have been back dozens of times and I always got that same magical feeling. My DH loves Disney too - so much so that we are cancelling a proposed trip to the Caribbean in March because he would rather spend 2 weeks at WDW.

My kids (both in their 20's now) don't get it. They went with us while growing up, but would just as soon go to a Six Flags or Universal as WDW. :scared1:

For me it's a mixture of escapism, romance, and magic.

For me it's like being in another world, it's so magical, no stress. I don't have to cook, clean, fetch stuff for my kids, I could go on, and on!! I only take one kid at a time, so I get a break from being a SAHM, so for me it's a major magical vacation!! I LOVE WDW!! :earsgirl:

When we took the kids to Great Escape in NY, I was like, this is in NO WAY close to being at WDW. I could easily do without ANY other theampark. There is no magic there.

I can help....wait... no I can't. :teeth:

When I saw you responded to this one, I just HAD to look. I couldn't wait to see what you said. :rotfl:

I actually can not explain it!!! :confused3 I try but the words just don't come out right!! My dh has asked me this before and I just don't know what to say! Let's just say I am normally not at a loss for words! :rotfl: I agree....either you get it or you don't...period.

I feel like a little kid when I get there....innocent with a whole "WORLD" to explore. I can skip, sing, dance, laugh OUT LOUD, kiss dogs and flirt with mice! (trust me, we have it on video!) :rotfl2: :earseek: and no one seems to notice or think I am "odd"!!! My kids smile from ear to ear and I cry at their obvious joy. It's just a feeling...again you get it or you don't.

Not to mention I can eat and drink at some of the finest establishments in the industry! :rolleyes1

P.S. I am having a glass of wine with you! ;)

I was dropped on my head a couple times as a baby

Everyone who has said "either you get it or you don't" is RIGHT ON. :cool1:

That's why I spend so much time on these boards, I need to connect with people who "get it". :cloud9:

But we get along, and I definitely do not "get" it... :)
