Tell me why you go to WDW as an older adult?

I am such a big kid at heart. The first time I went to WDW I was 20 years old and absolutely fell in love  . When I'm at home, I'll admit it, I'm not the nicest person, at Disney, I'll say hi to anyone and everyone and strike up conversations with strangers. Something I would NEVER do at home. Like someone posted before, its that feeling that you get when you are there.

I'm only 25 so some of you might still consider me a kid :rotfl: but when I was there last week, I wore my mouse ears most of the time. :earsgirl: I don't care if people look at me. I love it. Walt Disney and Co. are genuses because it truely is in my heart, the Happiest Place on Earth. :wizard:

I grew up watching Disneyland on TV and being enchanted but knowing my family could never afford to go.....The first place we went was main street. I'll always remember that wonderful feeling of seeing the castle and realizing a dream had been fulfilled. I don't think that until that moment that I got over my tightly held childhood knowledge and the disappointment that Disneyland was something I wouldn't be able to visit. I was a kid again.

definitely!!!

I'm 49 and DH is 50. We've both spent most of our lives living in Florida;Disney was just no big deal. (Probably like people who've lived in NYC their entire lives and never visited the Empire State Building or the Statue of Liberty--you get jaded!).

About 13 or 14 years ago, we took a short trip to Epcot and thought it was pretty small fun. Somehow DH got into his brain a few years ago that he wanted to go back to WDW and park-hop (why??) and I discovered the cheapest way to do that was to purchase the Florida Resident Seasonal Pass.

So in 2003, we ended up in Epcot during the Food and Wine Festival, and we were totally sprinkled with pixie dust. Totally hooked! We just love the festive atmosphere of the parks, all the entertainment, the food, and an occasional adult beverage here and there. There's so much to do and see, we never get tired of going. In the last 2 years, we've gone to the parks about 14 or 15 times, mainly for long weekends. We're 2 hours and 15 minutes away door-to-door, so it's pretty easy!

WDW is just plain fun. Where else can you go and wear a tiara for the whole trip??? (as a previous poster on this thread said she did--I LOVE IT!). In fact, DH and I were there last December ofr his 50th birthday and will probably go again this year for his 51st. :sunny:

I am also 52. DH is much older than me. We do not have any children.
DH and I had 4 annual WDW vacations together. He got a bit sick of it, while I became even more obsessed with WDW. So ..... in December I will have my 6th annual SOLO WDW vacation. All through the year, I plan for this one week vacation. I enjoy being by myself, but I also keep in frequent contact with my DH and my Mom via my cell phone. WDW just helps me forget about all those work responsibilities and helps me cope with all the negative reality. It is so much of a total delight to have all that Disney Magic. There really truly is such a thing as "Disney Magic" :goodvibes

I think it's in my blood. The first time I went, I wasn't even born--my mother was about 7 months pregnant with me. :) The next time was when I was 6, and the memories I have of that trip are priceless--some of the best memories I have from my childhood took place in that one week. So why do I still love visiting WDW? Because as soon as I step foot on resort property, I am that 6-year-old again. Everywhere I turn in Magic Kingdom or Epcot reminds me of another one of my memories of that trip. I guess I feel that as long as I'm there, I'll never grow old. (Perhaps this is why I love the Peter Pan ride so much?)

WDW is where mom wanted to celebrate her 85th birthday, DH and I went on a DCL cruise for his 60th.

Awe, that is so cute. I'm trying to talk my 87 year old Dad into going with us next time. I know he would like it because he loves walking around and people watching. He hasn't been since there was only the MK, I think my Mom (God rest her soul) made him go on too many rides :rotfl:

Proud to be in the over 40 gang. Glad to know there are other "adults" who enjoy Disney as much as I do. I am a big kid at heart, and I still love going to Disney just as much as I did on my first trip to WDW in July, 1973. A lot has changed over the years, but I love it even more now. I started collecting the pins, and let's just say I have found a new love. Disney truly is the happiest place on earth. What's not to love!!! :cool1:

I am 47, and my sister is 51, we go together and we love just having fun together. We play like kids again, it is a very carefree time, no children (not that ours aren't grown up), and no spouses, just the two of us enjoying what we enjoy. We love MK, and love competing at Buzz! We watch the parade everyday from the same spot.

Eating Cherry turnovers for breakfast while watching the Trolley Dancers. Having Fudge for lunch and no one cares. I love Peter Pan, Dumbo, Flying Carpets and Buzz. I may grow old, but won't grow up. AND I want the characters in the parade to shake my hand, too!!

Whenever we go anywhere else on vacation, we always end up saying..."We should have just went to Disney." However we ARE going to do a tour of Europe when we retire. But then it's Disney all the way!

There is no way to explain the attraction and unless you are also brainwashed, normal people just won't get it.

I am surprised how many closet Disney lovers there are though!

"Growing old is mandatory, growing up is optional"
I stole that from a signature-line on other disney-boards, but it explains a lot.

Once I put my ears on, I loose 20 years, and I become a 6-year old again (thank God a 6 yo with Visa-card!!!).
It is important to stay young at heart, that way you don't grow old to be a grumpy old man/woman!! :earsgirl:

Oh, and my 25th birthday, with Mickey-character beakfast was teh best birthday I ever had!

My DH tells me that I'm 29 going on 50 the way I act sometimes (of course he's 35 going on 5 most of the time), but when we go to WDW it's like I'm the one who's 5. I get the chills every time I walk out onto Main Street and I cry every time I see Wishes and Fantasmic. I have to get my picture takens with all the characters and get autographs. I have to ride all the rides--especially those that are for "younger" children. And of all the vacations we've gone on the one's to Disney are the only ones where nothing goes wrong and we are happy for the whole trip. I love feeling like a kid! And I love feeling like I'm playing with all my best friends the whole time I'm on vacation at WDW. There's just something about WDW-the place where magic lives!

I have a co worker who travels all over the world, but has never been to DW and has no desire to go. He always says I am a "mature" adult, and why not go on "mature" vacations? He says going to an exotic beach is a real vacation, a place to go and relax. I tell him i can relax by the pool at DW, IF thats the kind of vacation I want,(which I don't) I want to do things on vacation, not sit on my butt the whole time! He still gets on me about it, and just doesn't get it, but I just plan my next trip to the world while he plans his exotic trip, seems I always have more fun then he does :cheer2:

Hi,

I'm 42, am unmarried and have no children.

I'm going to WDW for the fifth time in less than three weeks! WOOHOO!!

Fourth time solo.

Why do I love Disney? Because, as another poster has said, I can be a wittle kid; the CMs are usually friendly; and I can hang out with my fellow Disney-loving Internet weirdo buddies. :jumping1:

Jim

I go because you can be yourself without having to be a grownup all the time and really enjoy just yourself, or enjoy family if they tag along. There's more to life than work -
Disney reminds us of the importance of relationships no matter who you are.
And then there's always just having fun as a big kid in the crowd!! And getting your picture made with Mickey!!

:dog2: Mainstreet Fan, walked the Mainstreet U.S.A. today, but I missed the Trolley Dancers, so sad.

I was 40 when I made my first trip to WDW in 1998. I was hooked instantly. I was the oldest in a family of 8 kids so childhood vacations were far and few between. I've been back 4 times since and on 2 DCL's. There is nothing like the feeling when you first enter one of the parks or the ship and know that you are at Disney! I always enjoyed Disney things but now I am a Disneyholic! I am about to become an aunt again for the first time in 15 years and am already trying to figure out when I can take my niece/Godchild to WDW. I always said I'd never take a child younger than 5 but I may be rethinking that. I took the 15 year old 2 1/2 years ago when she was 12. It was her first time away from Mom and Dad and she was VERY homesick plus had a sinus infection so the trip wasn't as special as I had hoped it would be for her. Other trips have been with my sister who is also single without kids.

we went to Disney for the first time on our 25 and a half year anniversary.....it took us a few months to get up enough nerve to do this.....we stayed at Port Orleans (now called French Quarter) ...the next year we took our daughter and the two grandkids......then each and every year after that...some times we go a few extra times in a year span. We love to go by ourselves.......we are not drinkers or gamblers or lay on the beach and get tan type of people......so Disney is the ultimate to entertain us all day long. We can go anywheres we want and do whatever we feel like doing..
We do still love taking the family with us and they all love Disney too......

I would like to know from others what are your reasons for going and going back again?

-We haven't done everything yet. :teeth:

-It's more fun w/o the kids! ;)

-Beautiful resort hotels. :faint:

-Dining around the world. :drinking1

-Great customer service. :bday:
