Our family of 5 will be at Universal for the first time in about two weeks. We are staying at the HRH and are planning to have breakfast at The Kitchen one day and Confisco Grille on another. So far that is all I have planned. We are thinking of going to NBA since we are all basketball fans. Other than that I am really lost. We do not like seafood and the kids can be picky eaters so nothing too fancy but I do not want to live on chicken nuggets and hot dogs for 4 days. I would appreciate any advice on where a newbie should plan to eat. I have always felt better with a plan since we all melt down when hungry. Where do I need reservations and where can we just walk in? Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner ideas are all appreciated. Thanks.

Cinnabon at citywalk is good for breakfast.

Hard Rock Cafe and Margaritaville are excellent lunch/dinner choices.

USF:
Boulangerie, Finnegans, Louie's, Richters, Cafe La Bamba's, and Schwab's Pharmacy are all excellent choices.

IOA: Mythos, Enchanted Oak Tavern, Thunderfalls Terrace, Burger Digs, and Cafe 4 are good as well.

Mythos is a definite for us every trip! The atmosphere, food and service are out of this world. We are also planning doing the meal plan on one of the days at the parks. It seems convenient and I know the kids will love the fact that they just show their bracelet and eat at the selected locations.

We love Tchoup Chop and Margaritaville. Tchoup Chop has the best service and food, and Margaritaville is just the most fun :cool1:

The Burger Digs in islands of Adventure in the jurassic park area, i love it there, its counter service.

you order a burger and then u go to the salad bar and get to fill it up with everything u want (lettuce, tomatoes, sauces etc...).

Mythos at IOA definitely, I crave going to that place constantly

Oh, you will not be living on chicken nuggets and hot dogs, lol.

One of the first things I noticed about USO/IOA/CW was how good the food was compared to other parks. Even burgers and hot dogs :)

Honestly, I can't think of one "bad" meal. I've got some favorites and some personal preferences, but I think you and your family will be blown away by the food options.

NBA is one of our favs, BTW, a "must-do." Bleu cheese chicken pasta for me (one of their signature dishes) and the ribs for DH. We also love Confisco's for lunch.

Enjoy :)

ETA: Sorry; I didn't see your last question.

Reservations, in my experience, are rarely needed. It might be a good idea to book one a day or two in advance at Margaritaville, Mythos or any of the Emeril's places (or Bubba Gump's when they start accepting them), but one reason why I prefer USO/IOA/CW over any Disney vacation is because the food planning months in advance really isn't necessary. You feel like steak and burgers on Tuesday afternoon for dinner, you will have no problem having that for dinner.

Margaritaville and Mythos are two of my favorite restaurants at Universal. Not only do they have excellent food, but their atmospheres are fun! Whenever we go, i usually make priority seating.

Looks like its pretty unanimous for Mythos and Jimmy Buffet's are also my favorites.

YOU HAVE TO GO TO MYTHOS!!!!! Seriously, this restaurant has gotten voted the best theme park restaurant by just about every type of list that does these type of ratings, but its not just the food. Probably the best atmosphere for any restaurant anywhere on the planet. An absolute MUST DO. And the Enchanted Oak Tavern just down the way is also a must do when you want to do the more laid back lunch. Great menu there as well.

Mythos is more of a sit down, elegant dining type situation, so you may want to save this one for a special night or whatever. Great place. Its where I always eat.

I stay at the Royal Pacific so when I walk to the park, Jimmy Buffets is the first thing you come do at the end of the RP path, great place there too. You should definitely not miss at a minimum JB, Mythos and Enchanted Oak.

I'll also add Mama Della's to the list if you want to go over to the Portofino.

MARGARITAVILLE!!!! (sorry, gotta earn my check ;) )
