How far in advance can you book the train tour? Is it worth it? Anybody been on it and have an opinion?

I think it's 90 days. DW and I took this about 2 years ago and it was worth every penny we paid for it.

If you are a train buff in any way shape or form it's a must do. DW doesn't share the same enthusiam as I do about trains and she also had a good time seeing the backstage transportation areas...

Look here for lots more info.

I been on this tour solo twice, and always enjoyed it. If you like to go behind the scenes or just being in the parks before opening, then this tour fits the bill. I like trains but I don't live and breathe them, and this tour was fun even for everyone. They do get into some technical stuff which was over my head - like how the steam boiler works, but there was still plenty of Disney info that was fun to hear. They tell you about the 4 individual train engines - the Broggie is out on rehab right now (if I remember correctly!). The Lilly Belle is very tempermental and most difficult to drive. The Roy and Walt E. are in the parks routinely. Very interesting to hear about the personalities of each train.

I really liked seeing the Roundhouse and the inside of the cab of the train, all very cool thing to do. I really enjoyed this tour, and wouldn't hesitate to do it a third time. :)

I booked this tour only about three weeks in advance of my May trip. I usually try to book farther out, but I had no problems booking close. :)

Sounds very interesting! My husband would probably like this tour!

I'm looking at booking the tour for my parents as a gift. We are going to DW the first week of December. I grew up in Florida, and my parents moved to Alabama when I went to college. They haven't been back to the world since about 1989. My Dad is a huge train fan. We are staying at VWL (DVC members). I'm anxious for them to see all the train memorobilia in the lobby too. I just want to make this trip really special for them. I think he would really enjoy the tour. Thanks again for all your replies. Erin

this sounds interesting. i always blew it off before, but maybe i will see if i can get a reservation for our august trip. we're always looking for new wdw experiences. thanks for the info. :)

You can book this tour more than 90 days out. I booked it for DH and myself for the first week in Dec 2003 in Jan of this year without any trouble. This will be our first time doing this tour and are looking forward to it

It's offered 2/week, Monday is one of the days, I think the other may be Thursday. Comparitively speaking it is not expensive ether. The biggest hurdle will be getting to MK for 0715. Looks like a case of park at the contemporary & walk

if we won't have a car, how can we get to the mk that early?

Ihe tour is offered on EE day's so you need to get the first bus from the resort to MK.

I asked a similar question over on the transportation board prior to our train tour in May.

Here's what happened on our tour. The tour starts at 7:30.

There were about 18 people signed up for the tour that day. Those that had a car, parked at CR. A few others took a taxi to the CR and walked over and were there prior to 7:30 waiting outside MK. At 7:25, the tour guide came out, gave us our name tags and we went through the turnstyles about 7:35.

Those that took busses got to our tour around 7:50 as we were walking through the train station. They missed the first part of the tour which talked about the four steam engines.
