Tell me what I'm gonna love about POR!

Did you see this in the allears weekly news letter:

"The seasonal program Campfire on de' Bayou is offered October through February only on Sunday and Thursday nights, 6:30 - 8 p.m., at Port Orleans Resort (weather permitting).
Cast members read stories about the resort and have guest sing-alongs at the campfire site located behind the Fishin' Hole at Ol' Man Island. No reservations are necessary. The price for s'more kits is $5.25 (tax included

We stayed in POR and I absolutely loved it. We requested Magnolia Terrace (mansions) because it isn't a "preferred location" so their wasn't an extra cost but it was just a quick walk across one bridge to get to the pool. The bus stop was just across the parking lot behind the building. The walk to the food court was a little farther but not bad at all.

I think POR is a lovely resort. Given your busy time frame, it would be a nice place to escape to when the crowds at the park get too much to handle! I love their food court and I think their main pool is wonderful. In fact, we are DVC which means we can pool hop and my kids have chosen that pool out of all the ones on property we could visit one day. They haven't stayed there in 2.5 years, but they still remember that pool! The boat to DTD is very nice, a wonderful, relaxing way to go have dinner a time or two. You can also rent a surrey bike, fish or take a carriage ride.

I do agree the buses can be a problem at this resort. However, I wouldn't not book there solely because of that. Instead I would be proactive from the beginning. I would request a building near the first bus stop. If that request is not met, I would simply walk to that stop each morning, the extra five minutes or less of walking will be worth it. Or I would rent a car which will really solve the bus problem altogether! And there have been many people who have had no bus problems at this resort, so its not an absolute that it will be a problem for you.

French Quarter is lovely too, but I missed the quiet pools and main pool of POR. If you enjoy swimming and have kids older than say 6 or 7, the POR pool is generally better. We stayed at POFQ two years ago from 12/27 to New Years Day. The pool at FQ was always packed and my kids thought the slide was so boring compared to POR's. I did enjoy being picked up first on the bus route but for my family that did not outweigh our pool woes! Of course being sister resorts, you can use either pool so that is a nice perk too.

Good luck!

I can tell you all about it when we check in in 10 days!

We stayed at POFQ last year and thought we would try something new this time around. After looking at the pictures of the resort, we are sold. I like that things are spread out...leaves more room to wonder...more pools...more quiet spaces. While I liked POFQ, I think the look of POR will be more our thing. Can't wait! :woohoo:
