Pin trading...

We have not traded yet but I went to the Disney Store Sale and bought a lot of pins on sale to use as traders.

Now I need to know pin etiquette.

How do you trade with a Cast Member?

How do you trade with an individual not working at Disney?

Do you seek out managers because they have better pins?

Are there any tricks to getting good pins?

Any secrets?

Thanks for any info.

Hi, Samantha!

A few links in my signature -- Pin Trading Etiquette 101 gives a quick primer into trading at WDW, and the Collectors Board FAQ gives more details for trading with cast members and other collectors.

When trading, many (including DW Lauri and me) will look for mangers (or "suits") with lanyards. Usually they spend more time backstage, and as a result their lanyards are either refreshed more often or aren't seen as frequently as CMs in costume.

As for tricks and secrets ... well, I would tell you but then everyone would know. ;) :smooth: :jester: Seriously, though -- check out of the way places for pins, be ultra-friendly and make sure to attend Scoop's seminar. He gives a GREAT talk on pin making and pin trading etiquette that's not covered in the brochures.

One other question :p

I'm buying a few (okay a lot ... mostly for my collection :p ) of pins at TDS for trading on my next trip. I was told by someone that the CMs may not accept those pins for trade, especially if you're trading for a lanyard pin. I never got into pin trading until the end of my last Disney trip, so I was trading WDW pins for whatever the CMs had and never had a problem. Should I save my money and buy trading pins when I get to WDW? I thought CMs were okay with trading as long as the pins were from Disney and it wasn't a duplicate of something they already had.

When we were in WDW, the CMs LOVED getting the Disney Store pins. They're actually something different from the usual pins they see all the time. Something good for lanyard trading would be the state pins from the Stores.

Disneyland does have more restrictions on what pins are accepted for CM lanyard trades, but there are pins that are tradable at WDW that aren't tradable at DL.

Thanks for the info Obi-Wan...I new you had the knowledge I seek.;)

Actually,
CM pin trading at DLR is now the same as WDW, well basically back the way that it used to be (the new "rules" lasted only a few months)
Any pin that has a Disney copyright mark on the back is ok.
