I have been reading through some other threads and it seems like there may have been some subtle but IMO more than subtle changes on the Ships since last year when we sailed the Fantasy. So I am not surprised when we sail next month on the Magic and I know how to address these changes please give me your thoughts and recent experiences on the following:

  • Is it true that the delicious desserts are no longer out in Cove Café?
  • Is it true there are no longer snacks in the pub etc unless your order and pay?
  • Is it true that the Shampoo/Conditioner etc is not automatically re-stocked but you have to ask
  • Is it true that the Navigators are now 1-page and just a grid schedule?
  • Is it true Palo no longer has a food display and you select from a menu?
Anything else that I might be surprised about since our sailing last year ? I much rather plan for some surprises!

Thanks in advance.

  • No, there are still desserts in Cove Cafe.
  • No, there is still a "free" buffet in the adult area. But it's hours are limited. Really just one hour around 10:30 pm. There is also a menu available in the pub for ordering special bar snacks (for a fee) at any time.
  • You may or may not have to ask for more. It depends on your room host. Some automatically restock, others don't.
  • Yes, it appears this has happened. Unless we all let DCL know we don't like the change. Sometimes such input reverses decisions.
  • Palo brunch is a buffet with the option to order entrees. Previously the entrees were out for display and you told your server which one you want to order. Now the entrees are on a printed menu (and some differences), and you still order it from your server.

I was on the wonder in July, before the renovation, but what I can say about out trip is....

Shampoo/conditioner was restocked pretty much daily, I think this depends on your stateroom host.
There was a separate snack menu in the pub available for an up charge, but the free food was available too.

Palo and the navigator have changed since then, so I won't comment on those.

Enjoy your trip!

- Still Desserts in the Cove Cafe
- Pub snacks for an hour at 10:30pm. You can buy for a fee on other snacks
- My shampoo and conditioners were automatically re-stocked
- They had a one page navigator you could pull out. I liked that option. I have attached pictures.
- I don't know about Palo as I didn't go this year.

Word is they have gone to JUST the one page that was formerly a pull-out. :/

Just got off the boat in early September. While the Cove Cafe desserts were still available, they were no longer serve yourself (at least on my cruise). The Crew members had to take the desserts out of the case for you and serve you. It took some of the fun out of it for me.

Wait what?!?

Navigators now only have the grid? When did that happen?

ETA - The 9/3 cruise on the fantasy appeared to have normal Navigators. :confused3

I just got off on the 17th and I could serve myself.

Currently on the Magic and O'Gills has snacks out in the early evening as well. I don't know what time it starts but they were out when I went last night sometime around 6:30.
Items include: vegetable crudites with dressing dips, BBQ wings, tortilla chips with nacho fixings (salsa, sour cream, guacamole, plastic cheese), hot dogs & sauerkraut.

Never Say Never

I was on the Dream last weekend and here is what I experienced/saw

1.The Cove still had desserts but the CM had to get them out for you. I suspect this had something to do with the proper use of tongs an napkins that were being overlooked by some guests. ( IE avoid sickness)
2,There were still snacks but for a limited time frame in the evening. If you went into the pub, there was a charge for snacks on the menu... I remember this being this way earlier in the year though.
3. We were restocked everyday and did not ask.
4. On embarkation day, it was the usual full Navigator with grid insert on days after that, it was the grid schedule.
5. I cannot answer about Palo.

On our last cruise in June there were no desserts in cove cafe. No snacks in Bars. You could get them, but you had to ask. No signs up telling people they were available if they asked.
I've been on three cruises this year 2 on the Wonder and 1 on the Magic. Our shampoo and conditioner was not restocked. I had to ask.

I can only tell you what I experienced. Others may have experienced something different. Every ship is different. Every room steward is different.

Our last cruise in May, there were desserts in Cove Cafe (you could help yourself). And chips and dip in Promenade Lounge every night. As well as the hot dog/chicken wing/veggies & dip/chips & dip buffet in O'Gills every night. Also in O'Gill's was the extra pay pub grub menu.

We got shampoo/conditioner/lotion refills every time one of them hit less than 1/2 a bottle.

And that's pretty much been our experience on all the DCL cruises we've taken.

Yes, experiences can differ, but for the most part, I believe this is what happens on most cruises.

For 'free' snacks from this August on the Wonder, all self serve:
Cove Café--morning: pastries, afternoon: desserts, evening: meats/cheeses/olives/crudités
10:30-11:30PM--evening snacks in Promenade Lounge--hot appetizers, chips/dip, crudités; Diversions--hot appetizers, crudites, AND desserts at least one night--they had a yummy chocolate truffle!

Shampoo/conditioner/lotion--we got ours replaced maybe 4-5x on a 7 night cruise.

You've been on one this year and I've been on three with no replacements. I don't know if it normally get's replaced on all cruises or not. My experience had been similar to yours up until this year. What's normal and what's not seems to vary because I'm not the only poster that has had this issue. It's really a non issue because I'll get my conditioner even if I have to go to guest services and ask for it. Our second to last cruise in Feb there was food out. Our cruise in June there was not that appears to be an isolated cruise from what I can see.

Was on EBPC 2 weeks ago. Cove had desserts as well as snacks (charcuterie, olives, cheeses) for entire cruise and serve yourself. Shampoos restocked constantly entire cruise. Navigators were full for entire cruise. Palo entrees are menu.
