This is our 1st time staying there and we cant wait!

So, tell me something new about GF. A secret little place or an activity or anything! What is the best thing to eat? Have you found a nice quiet path or give me a piece of advice. Details please

I saw the post about the Pop and thought this was a great idea to help us get ready for our stay at GF!

On the second floor of the main building, there are some balconies outside that have tables and chairs. They were often unoccupied and I enjoyed sitting out there quietly contemplating the lagoon. They also offered a great view for thunderstorms.

Glad you asked. We are staying there for the 1st time in Nov. and I have been trying to read every thread I can find about the GF.

I agree with LukenDC. This is where I sat while DH & Kids were riding the boats. Very nice and relaxing!

We've only stayed at GF once (in 2001), but my favorite memory is something that I saw listed in the information they give you when they check in. I'd never heard of it before, but on certain days they had a morning "parade" of the housekeeping staff. We ate breakfast at 1900 Park Fare and then walked outside to the area by the main pool. Soon all the housekeepers in their pretty uniforms and carrying parasols came out and paraded around the grounds. They were lead by a gentleman in a top hat and tails. It was really neat to watch, and one of the housekeepers motioned my DD10 over and let her walk with her and carry her parasol. I don't know if they still do this or not, but it was really special to me!

We really have enjoyed the GF over the years. We've never actually stayed there, but have eaten there and visited many times, especially at Christmastime whentheir big tree and the gingerbread house is up...and they give chestnuts out! lol

My absolute favorite breakfast at the GF Cafe (we have never been disappointed here...but it is not "bargain food" either meaning its freshness and deliciousness is reflected in its price) is their Eggs Benedict (I ask for the whites to be set and the yolks liquid and they do it perfectly). Lol...it's the only place I've ever had this dish that they do it as well as I can. I love being served something that is up to my standards that I didn't have to make myself...my DH doesn't really understand why I love this so...but then he experiences perfect Eggs Benedict that he didn't have to make himself at home whenever the mood strikes him lol!

Spend some time just walking around on the ground floor, take the glass elevator up to the next level and explore a bit here, too. This level is where you will find the doors to the outdoor balconies where you can sit, read and relax. Look for the toy antique Ferris Wheel too! My daughters have enjoyed simply walking down the Grand Staircase from this level...imagining they were Eliza Doolittle or a Pride and Predjudice character..moi?...I felt like Scarlett O'hara! :goodvibes

Do visit the Wedding Pavillion if you have some time to wander. It brought up all sorts of dreamy memories for me...not that we got married there...just...well...that's what it does...

Oh...and DO ask the uniformed conductor to ride "up front" in the monorail if you're not in a hurry to get somewhere (because you might have to wait for a few monorails before they have room for you). It's worth the wait though...because it's so neat to sit up front and actually see where you are going. You get a perspective of the World not available anywhere else!

Thank you!! I cant wait to go! Any more tips or hints would be great!

I loved sitting on the pier at night, listening to the howl of the Haunted Mansion wolf. And the sounds of the train whistle when everything else is calm. Serenity....

2 things we loved about the GF, no 3, ok maybe 4.

We loved the jazz band that played in the lobby during the evening.

We enjoyed the club level lounge in main lodge. Breakfast, lunch, snack, heavy apps for dinner, and then desset and cordials. I think you pay more to be in the main lodge but from what I could see the difference between club levels was pretty significant.

The covered beach chairs by the lake at night was a great place to go enjoy being with my new wife, we snuggeled till the wee hours of the morning.

But most of all we enjoyed dinner at Victoria and Alberts. A full meal with wine pairings, a private maid and bulter, a personalized menu, and the coolest coffee service I have ever seen. This is a 5 star experiance. I have traveled the world over and never had such a wonderful experiance. If money is not a problem then this is must. Cost for 2 with tip was over $300 not sure what it is now. Worth every penny and I am pretty tight most of the time.

Kinda OT, but I had my wedding reception on one of these balconies! :goodvibes

At times, during hot days, they will serve pink lemonade in the lobby.

I love sitting in the lobby listening to the pianist play disney show tunes-and other tunes,. and of course the live band on the second floor.

Tea time in the tea room is a must--get fresh strawberries and cream.

Pay attention to the outstanding floral arrangements all over the place.

Shopping on the first floor women's shop (can't remember name) is a blast--they always have unique items.

You can pre-order a 3-D white chocolate Mickey (around 5" tall) in a Tuxedo with gold trim to be delivered to your room after you arrive. You can also order "dressed-up" strawberries.

that's all I can think of right now.

get a cabana they are great.
Check out the GF FAQ thread there are tons of tips, reviews and pics!
