This October is our 1st time staying there and we cant wait!

So, tell me something new about POR. A secret little place or an activity or anything! What is the best thing to eat? Have you found a nice quiet path or special thing to do, or just give me a piece of advice. Also info on what the arcade, pool, bar, etc are like would be very welcome.

I saw the post about the Pop and GF and thought this was a great idea to help us get ready for our stay at POR!

The sweet potato pancakes with the honey-pecan butter for breakfast...to die for...

The pool is nice and relaxing...nicely themed, lots of plants/trees/etc, the kids enjoyed it, I enjoyed the pool bar ;) ...

The boat to DTD...

I think in October you won't have bad crowds and will be able to enjoy everything and still enjoy warmer weather without it being deathly hot.

Hey, Jedi! You will love POR! We are going end of Nov - Dec for our second stay there.

We stay in the Alligator Bayou section and our last trip, our room was right on a quiet pool. We were the only people ever using it.

Also, DH enjoyed waking up really early every morning (while kids were still asleep) and walking over to the Riverside Mill to pick up a quick breakfast and bring it back to the room. The walkways are lush and peaceful (from the Bayou rooms) and when you get to the Mill, there was always a peaceful haze over the river in the early a.m.

Excellent, I'm an early riser too so I;m very glad to hear that. The rest of the family not so much, especially my wife but I'm dragging them out of bed early on the 23rd as that's my birthday and I have a 7am ressie at Chef Mickeys.

You don't want to miss the live entertainment in the lounge in the evening. Piano Man Bob Jackson is amazingly entertaining. :thumbsup2

My family and I stayed at POR and had a 7:00AM ressie at Chef Mickey's as well. This was in October 2006. Make sure you say something to the CM when you check in. You will need a taxi to take you to your ADR at Chef Mickey's. It should only take you 10-15 minutes to hop in the cab and stand at the entrance of Chef Mickey's

I am still not sure to this day, but I thought the CM told me that we would not have to pay for the ride. I should have asked again but I did not. Anyway, we got the ride and I paid the cab driver the fare and tip and he kind of looked at me strange like he was not expecting that much money. I don't know if this would be offered to you or not, but keep this in mind.

One last thing, many CM's told us that it was the hottest October that they could remember in 2006. We were there for nine nights and five days reached 90 degrees in temperature. All of the other days reached highs in the mid 80's.

I also am a fan of the quiet pools. They are so relaxing. There is great atmosphere at night. My DH and DS's had a blast one evening in the quiet pool. The water was so warm. We requested a water view and were right next to a quiet pool.

Great vacation!

Boatwrights also has good food.

There is a guy who plays piano and sings and jokes in the bar. I wouldn't make a special trip to see him, but it is a heck of a lot of fun if you happen to be finishing dinner or want a drink and wander in.

I think the food court is the nicest of the moderates. And there was a pasta bar when I stayed at POR.

I don't really like the Orleans resorts - just not my thing - but they are nice. And POR is very well landscaped (watch out for tree frogs.)

I would! Piano Man Bob is a MAJOR reason why we're staying at POR again in January. The first time we went to POR we missed him - mostly because we didn't know he existed. I stumbled across his act last time I was there with friends - but DH was back in the room sleeping. So, I told DH that we had to stay at POR again so that we could catch Piano Man Bob's act. Yes, it's that good! :thumbsup2

Go for walks at night along the winding pathways. It is really like you are in the Bayou. If your kids like to fish there is a catch and release Fishin Hole on Ol Man Island.

Just stayed at POR at the beginning of July. This was our first stay there....ABSOLUTELY LOVED IT!! We had a wonderful time. I think the best part (in my opinion) was the riverboat ride to DD. So relaxing...every "captain" of the boat had something different to share with you. We learned a lot of odd facts about the native birds and properties along the Sassagoula River. It is also nice because the boat ride originates at the POR and then you stop to pick up other passengers at the POFQ. Sometimes the boat was filled and there wasn't any room for POFQ guests (oops). POR guests have first priority. :goodvibes Needless to say..that was my favorite part.

I also like to get up early in the morning and walk. When you check in they give you map of the property which shows all the walking/jogging trails on the POR and POFQ properties. They are very quiet and beautiful in the morning. I highly recommend a morning stroll.

We stayed in the Alligator Bayou part of the resort...we loved the theme. There is a lot more vegetation on that part of the resort. We were lucky and got a room that was pretty close to the main building...we had easy access to not only the main building with the restaurants but the marina and main bus stop! It was very convenient.

I hope you have a wonderful trip!! :thumbsup2
