We have an opportunity there and wanted to know if any body has good or bad things to report about that area. How's the city, suburbs, etc.

TIA
Tracy

It's a very nice city. I have a lot of Family there. The suburbs are broken down into Villages some of which are very quaint. I have some family in Penfield and some in Fairport (very quaint). As far as the actual city goes it's quite manageable size wise and like most cities some parts are better than others. They have a wonderful zoo and lots of nice parks. If it weren't for the winters (long, cold & snowy) I'd consider it a great place to live.

Thanks for the reply. As you can see in my siggy, snow is not a problem. I have 2 kids (11 and 13) and they are doing so well in school. I am concerned about how the schools are, as well. Any info is appreciated.

Hi just wanted to say the I live in Rochester, NY and if you have any questions just PM me. I will be happy to answer or get you an information that you need. As far as the school system some suburbs have better ones than others.

Well Tracy, you won't need to "pray for snow" anymore! ;)

Do you ski? We are heading to Bristol Mountain (Canandaigua) for a couple of days next week--which is just a bit southeast of Rochester.

Hi, Tracy. I've lived in Rochester all my life and haven't really ever considered living anywhere else. Like all cities, it has its good points and bad points. There are a lot of nice festivals (including one last weekend with a chili cook off and a polar bear swim) and shopping malls. We're also right on Lake Ontario and Irondequoit Bay is nearby, in case you enjoy water sports. I don't have any kids, so I can't really tell you anything about that.

I'd be happy to try and answer any more questions you have.

DH & I lived in Rochester (West Henrietta, actually) from 1996-1998. It's a beautiful area, and it's just a short drive to Buffalo and Niagara Falls. We loved the weather, especially since we were used to the HOT summers in Oklahoma. We'd probably still be there if we hadn't missed our family so much. It's a great city!
