I want to pull my son out of school a day early to start our vacation. Crazy that I am so flustered about it.
However, he is in junior high, and everything that I have read in the school rules, etc. does not say anything about absentee in school due to vacation or personal reasons.
I have a meeting on Tuesday when I plan on mentioning it to the staff at the meeting to see what they have to say about it. And afterward plan on emailing the teachers that he has to ask if they would please send any work he would miss home with him.
I am hoping that there will be no tests or quizzes (what is the chance of those happening the last day of school before Spring Break?). And I am hoping that the teachers would all be excited for him and tell him to have a great trip and not to worry about missing anything (wishful thinking, huh?).
If I let him miss that day of school, we can leave at noon to overnight in the hotel we are staying at before we fly out the next morning, missing all of the traffic. If he stays in school that day, we will hit ALL of the evening rush hour FRIDAY traffic.
Please tell me not to feel bad about him missing one day. His grades are good and he has no missing work.

If he has a test that day, as most teachers will close a unit before a break so everything the kids learned for it isn't forgotten on break, just ask that he take the day before. Other than that, I HIGHLY doubt your son will be missing a lot of work, talking from experience.
Go, Enjoy and leave when it works for YOUR family!
