Our Magic cruise still 7 months away, but that doesn't stop
our excitement!!! I've been reading many posts about
these shoe hangers and how they are used. Tell me more.
Where do you find them? (I've been looking in the luggage
sections of Walmart/Target) and cannot find them.
Do you carry them on board, filled or just use as a storage
area in your cabin. What did you store in them? THANKS
FOR ALL THE ADVICE!

I have seen them at Target by the clothes hangers/storage area.

On our 7-day Magic cruise last January we didn't use one of the over-the-door shoe holders. I had heard about them, but really didn't think I would need one, and I didn't. With the split bathroom there is actually quite a bit of room for things, especially in the bathroom with the toilet/sink. There is a 3-shelf corner unit, plus the shelf above the sink. And they have little bars attached so things won't fall off. I kept my curling iron, hair spray, etc. on the vanity in the sitting area. Maybe for someone who wears make-up, or with children, would want to use one but I really didn't need one for our trip. Oh, you can find them at Wal-Mart in the aisle with hangers, clothes hampers, etc. And I think people pack them empty and folded, then just fill them once you're there and hang it on the door.

I think this is a great tip and have purchased mine already... not only for our upcoming cruise - but for our other WDW vacations we have planned. I hate the clutter in our resort room as the week progresses - stuff like Sunscreen and autograph books etc.. that just lay around taking up table space and DRIVING me nuts! But they need to be handy and visible for all the parties in the room.

They are in the section of Walmart KMart that has closet organizers and stuff. They are very small empty - and are easy to pack. Be sure to get the clear one - so you can SEE what is in each of the pockets.

You could also look at TJMaxx or Marshalls - that's where I got mine. We use it even on non-cruise vacations. With 2 of us and 3 kids, we get a lot of clutter (brushes, combs, makeup, sunglasses, room keys, sunscreen, etc.) It really was nice to just stick it all in a pocket and grab it when we needed it!

I heard about them on the boards and emailed a question to another cruiser on our 12/1/01 Cruise.
Then ran out and bought one (Target).

It was great. There really isnt a lot of counter space in the bathrooms and you can stash all you brushes, lotions, etc. in the pockets and never have to go searching for them. Hubby and I tend to put things back in different places so this gave us a central location for all our stuff and I didn't take up all the counter space with my make-up.
We packed ours in the bag it came it (nice and flat) then hung it up and filed it when we unpacked.

We Loved our "over the door shoe hanger". We used if for everything. Film, brochures, sunscreen, lotion etc. I hate having stuff all over and this was great. I keep in in the zippered compartment of my luggage when not in use. That way I alway's have it when I travel.

I found mine at the dollar store--it isn't a shoe holder, but a bill/paper holder. It has a hook like a hanger, and I hung it on the hook outside of the bathroom. Used it for keys, sunglasses, pager for kids club, camera. I put the toiletries on the shelf in the bathroom. I also plan on taking it next vacation, because it really did help keep the cabin neat.

Your responses are great. Yes, there was alot of room to store
items in the split bathrooms, but this cruise will happily
be for 7 days and our family gets very unorganized. I will
search for this item (we DO have 7 months to wait).:bounce:

Minnie's Guy,
We bought our from Walmart. It is in the area where thet sell hangers, closet organizers, regular metal shoe racks, etc. Mine is blue cloth with the plastic pockets. it had hooks that fit over the bathroom door. We could close door with it up, no problem.

My family cruised on the Magic in May 2001. My DW had read the DIS Boards and purchased a over the door shoe holder and it was a Godsend. We had it filled with all the little things mentioned above and more. If you are unsuccessful at Wal-Mart, if you have a Bed, Bath & Beyond close by they will be sure to have it.

We are traveling again on the 6/22/02 Magic (Western) and we will be taking it with us again for sure!

Good Luck... enjoy your cruise!

We purchased one for our cruise last month. Got it out onboard and the package didn't contain the "hanger" parts....so we couldn't use it :-( We did have plenty of space for the 3 of us with the split bathrooms though. I wish hotel rooms would take some lessons from cruise ships as to how to provide storage space!

We purchased one and ended up never taking it out of the bag! The split bathroom had plenty of room and the one had corner shelfs that worked out fine for us.

Minnie's Guy, I purchased my over the door shoe hanger at Target. It is lightweight and holds 10 pairs of shoes. It was about a year ago, but if I can recall correctly, it costed $7.99. Actually, there are a few different types of them to choose from and you can find them all where they have the hangers, shoe racks and etc.

Happy Sailing!!!

My husband and I took one - and boy were we glad!! I didn't realize how much stuff we took. There is medication, toiletries, cameras, etc. We used it and it really helped to keep the room uncluttered. I would recommend it.

We loved ours. We kept sandals, sun screen, room cards, sun glasses, shampoo, brushes, etc. It really worked at ending clutter on top of the dressers.

We took the clear kind. We got our last year at Bed Bath and Beyond and I realize now we paid too much for it $14.99. I just saw the same ones at K-mart for about 7.99

The only thing I found was that the bathroom door had to pulled closed hard to latch because the hook was a bit too thick. I will file it down next time...the hook, not the door!

I bought the over the door shoe holder at Target last year (for $7.99) before our first cruise and we never opened it. I returned it when we got home. Upopened, they are very flat and pack easily in the checked baggage. Not sure how easy it is to get them back into the luggage after using them! With just my husband and I we found that we didn't need it because of the great storage in the closet, drawers and split bathrooms. I can see how it would be useful though if you have lots of stuff or more than two people in the room.

I am the DW referred to in KeenHo's post above. I think it is a riot that he loved having the over the door organizer, because he was quite a skeptic beforehand :) Even though our kids aren't going on our next trip, we will make good use of it without them!! Loved having a place for used and unused film, receipts for all purchases, toiletries, hair accessories, mints, small souvenirs, etc. Gee, maybe without the kids this time there will be some empty pockets in which to store shoes!!!

Loved having a place for used and unused film, extra sunglasses, sunscreen, receipts for all purchases, toiletries, hair accessories, mints, small souvenirs, etc. Gee, maybe without the kids this time there will be some empty pockets in which to store shoes!!!
