I just looked at allears photos of the Poly and I have to admit, I'm a little disappointed at what I saw. The rooms didn't seem all that big and everything kind of reminded me of the 70's feel.
Please, tell me it's just the pictures....the rooms must be larger than CSR (our last visit) and the 70s feel makes it that more authentic....right?
Please reassure me I haven't made a mistake, I've been so excited and now I'm nervous!!
Thanks

Hi: The poly rooms are huge, about 400 or more sq. feet. They hold two queens and a single size daybed. The washroom is alot larger than a moderate resort. The whole beautiful tropical feel of the resort makes you feel so relaxed. Sitting on the beach watching the castle turn colours, watching the monorail going thru the contemp, and the grand floridian all lit up at night is so pretty. There is a boat going back and forth to magickingdom from the poly dock.

Here is a website by Tikiman it is the best on the poly, go click on standard rooms and you will see, check out how much room is at the end of the queensize beds for walking by

Hit the little palm tree on the left and you will go to the home page and check out the website.

Definitely go to Tikiman's site. Everything you want to know you will find there, he's great and he updates constantly.
Bear in mind, Poly is one of the original hotels and this is why they are undergoing alot of rehab is to bring it more up to date. I liked the size of the rooms when we were there and I stayed in the Hawaii building and it was very spacious. The room has only one sink, at least the one I was in did.

Don't confuse the faux Polynesian styling for the 70's feel. It is what it is and if this style isn't your cup of pineapple juice then I'd definately go someplace more modern...Although finding larger rooms will be a problem. pirate:

The Poly did have a bit of a retro feel when we stayed there but we still really like the theme there and the rooms are pretty big.

Okay- You're seeing things wrong:) Honestly, it's a wonderful resort, very friendly and a Disney original.

The rooms are quite large by Disney standards - the only ones bigger are at the Contemporary. The style of the room is certainly a personal preference thing, but I personally wouoldn't describe it as retro 70's - more like tropical. But if it really doesn't appeal to you, look at alternatives by all means!

The Poly is very nice. The rooms are huge and very well appointed. The grounds are very pretty; right down to the bunnies and ducks! Check out tikiman's site and if you still don't like what you see, then change resorts. There are plenty to choose from!

The look of the rooms now was created with the help of designers and staff from the Kaanapali beach resort which has been voted the most authentic Hawaiian resort. This was done in the late 90s (96-98) so the look was not supposed to be retro but authentic Polynesian. If you look at the furniture and materials used they are very representative to resorts found in Hawaii. I have seen many of the same things over in the islands. Some may think it is retro because it does not look like a room in a modern Hawaiian resort but many of the newer resorts in Hawaii are not going for an authentic look. They don’t have much need to keep the Hawaiian theme going throughout the hotel when they are already surrounded by Hawaii.

The new look to the rooms being added is not to make it more modern but to just make it different. It will still not look modern but that is not what they are going for. Well maybe the new 27 inch TV will be more modern.

As for the size the Polynesian standard rooms are only beat in size by suites and some rooms at the Contemporary for its size.

Aloha

When I saw pictures of the Poly I had the same impression at first, however, when we actually got there it was a whole different story. The rooms were very large and not dated in the least. The decor is neutral with "polynesian" accents. The bathrooms are also nice and large as a pp mentioned.

wow tikiman has really got a great site going!!!

I wish there were sites that awesome for the rest of the resorts as well :goodvibes

We stayed in a 'standard garden view room' many years ago with 4 people and it was huge! Only our stay in the Contemporary tower was equal in room size. Moderate and value resort rooms will seem tiny after your stay at the Poly!

The decor appeals to many people - less fake than it might appear and the atmosphere is superb. We go back just for walks and meals there even on short trips.

I will add that a great feature that makes the rooms seem even larger is that the whole far wall is all glass. You open up those curtains and look out onto the beautiful property beyond your room.

I have been in love with the Poly since I was a kid. I appreciate that while they have renovated and "freshened" it, they haven't messed with the basic feel of the place. For many of us that would be messing with perfection! In my humble opinion, I can't imagine anyone being disappointed in this lovely resort. If concerns linger, request a building that has just been re-done.

I felt the same way when I saw the allears pictures of BC. I had already booked our room there but I was checking our all the pics on Deb's site and started to feel that it really wouldn't be worth the extra $$ to stay there rather than a mod or value. I was really excited about staying at the BC. The only other deluxe we had stayed at was WL but something about those pictures left me worried. I talked to DH about it and we have rebooked at Pop. We can pay for our airfare with the savings. Hope I did the right thing!!

I've stayed at the Polynesian twice, both time concierge; once in 1991 and again last July (2004). I didn't like it either time. The resort itself is nice and I like to go and visit (restaurants, electrical water pageant) but I do not like the rooms or the "feel" of the hallways. Maybe the Polynesian style is just not for me. It reminds me of a Holiday Inn. I tried it again last year because I knew there just had to be something wrong with the way I felt about it considering all the wonderful reviews I read. Well, it's just not my cup of tea. I much prefer the Epcot resorts, even POFQ. If I stay at a MK resort again, it will either be GF or WL.

I certainly appreciate everyone's input. After looking at Tikiman's great site, I am looking forward to our visit. Tikiman's pictures give a much nicer view of the resort than than ones at allears. Guess the only way to know if you are going to like something is to try it out for yourself and that is what we are going to do May 28th!
Thank you everyone for your reviews.

Hi:
You will only know by trying but I do hope you enjoy it there. There is a nice walking path from the polynesion to the grand fl. resort as well.

Still wish I were going back to the poly.
