Hi Everyone!

This is my first post but I have been reading the boards for about 8 months. Here's my dilemma. I am 51 years old and DH is 56. We had been to WDW many times while our sons were growing up (last time was 1990) and most recently this past June with our 10 yo niece. That trip sparked a renewed interest in the World which had lain dormant for 16 years! Now I'm hooked again and am planning a trip for just DH and myself for early Dec. Question is are we alone? I know couples in their 20's and 30's go without kids but over 50? We have always gone in the summer because of kids in school so this will be a first for Christmas time and cooler temps. I'm looking forward to a leisurely walk through the parks and resorts without rushing from one ride to the next, enjoying the lights and decorations and the little things we have always missed. Its just kind of embarrassing at our age to tell people we are going to Disney World for our 33rd wedding anniversary. Any opinions?

Sandy

I think it is a great place to go and have fun, relax, whatever - no matter what your age! Obviously, the big difference, is you can have fun without trying to please the children at the same time.

I know people in their 40's that go just as a couple. It is not wierd. We are only in our 20's right now, but just bought into the DVC, so that is almost 50 years of vacations. We definitely plan on going by ourselves as we age. Go, have a great time!

First of all, :welcome: :)

No, you are certainly not alone! There are many people who go without chidren! My husband and I have been going on trips to the world since our boys were very young. They are now 19 & 16 and still come with us, but if/when they don't want to anymore, I can guarantee we will still be going! We are also DVC members.

I think you should go and have a great time!!!! I know I am only 21 and my gf is 18, but I think that we well goto WDW alot from now until we are older and our kids grow up and get out of the house.

My Dh and I go with the kids now, but in 8 years our youngest will be off to college. All of our kids know that our plan is to drop her off at whatever college she goes to and then find the nearest airport and go to Disney without kids! We'll be in our 50s by then!

If it makes you feel better - I'm in my late 20's and I will be going by myself for my trip in two weeks. You are not alone in wanting to go as a couple - regardless of your age. When I was about 5 or 6 we went and my grandmother went with us. She loved it so much that she took my grandfather (they were in their late 60's or early 70's by that point) and they went to Walt Disney World by themselves. I don't think you are ever too old to go there.

TO THE DISBOARDS!!!!!

Now that we're friends, don't take this the wrong way, but "are you nuts?" :teeth: Twenty years ago DH and I visited WDW and we decided to move down here. The main reason being, all the older couples walking around hand-in-hand. The romantic little devils convinced me that there was really something in the Florida drinking water. :lmao:

WDW is definitely for families and young couples in love, but it is a magnet for older couples to feel like kids again, too. You can go and hang out, relax, walk, talk, dine, go on rides and most importantly be together.

I don't think there is any such thing as "age" in WDW. It has too much magic. Come and have a wonderful time!!!!! :thumbsup2

My parents have been going to Disney every year for the past 15 years. They're both in their mid 50's. They love going just by themselves. There's nothing wrong with it. :)

I am also in my 50's & DH is 60! We have two sons both in there 30's. ( One of them still comes with us once in a while if he can get the same vacation. He loves Disney as much as we do. If he doesn't come with us he goes with his girlfriend. We were at WDW this past July, also celebrating our 33rd anniversary :) It was just the two of us & we had a great time! We were there for 2 weeks! We went to all the parks, stayed for the extra magic hours, went on MANY of the rides (yes including Fantasyland rides :yay: ), took pictures with the characters, did a couple of character meals. We have been going twice a year since 1998 :cool1: & always have a great time! Don't make being in your 50's seem like you are too old to enjoy WDW or any other place you might decide to go! It's all about the two of you being together & doing what you want, when you want! Go and have fun! That's what it's all about. My DH & I just concentrate on each other & do everthing we enjoy at Disney. (You shouldn't go feeling embarrased or worrying what other people might think. Trust me when you are at Disney no one is paying attention or pointing fingures saying look at those little older people, just the two of them without children. Everyone is there for the same thing, to have a terrific time) :dance3: My DH & I went about 4 years ago before Christmas & it was beautiful. (We went to Mickey's X-mas party at MK one night, it was great :) . We already have our reservations to go back in Feb. 2007 & again in July of 2007. (I am a caregiver to my mom so we had to change the time of year when we go, we go at the busiest time but that is what we have to do). So I guess you know what my reply is. GO! GO! GO!
I know you will have a great time & remember to make your ADR'S pixiedust:
We always stay at Port Orleans

Well, DH and I parted ways a long while ago, but I've been to WDW many times with DS. Now that he is in college I'm taking my DM with me this time. I'm almost mid-50's and she's 86. Enjoy:cool1: and :welcome: :disrocks:

My mom (82 years old) still loves WDW!!!
I look forward to the day when I can go by myself to appreciate WDW at my own leisure.

DH is 54 and I'm 53. Last year we bought into DVC. We go to WDW and Disneyland Resort, just the two of us. Sometimes we meet up with friends who live locally, sometimes we don't.

We've also gone to Disneyland Paris twice.

Disney is for the young and the young at heart.

Thank you to everyone for all the positive replies :) I feel so much more at ease and I know we will have a great time! It was nice to hear not only from those my age and older going to Disney, but from the twenty-somethings that think it is cool to go at any age! We will be taking our grandchildren in a few years but for now it is our time together to enjoy the magic :love2:

We're mid-forties and just celebrated our 25th anniversary at WDW. This was our 4th Disney trip as a couple. We're planning to continue indefinitely!

My Dsis and her friend - both in their 50s have been vacationing every year for the past 7 years at WDW - neither of their husbands like to travel, so they began vacationing together. Neither of them are big ride fans either... they don't hurry to get anywhere in the mornings, and just enjoy the time doing whatever moves them each day!

This year I do have them going on the Yuletide Fantasy Tour (selfishly - I wanted to go too!!!) They always do the MVMCP as well.

They have the added bonus of both having family that live in Orlando as well. Myself and the son of the friend -he is an ex-CPer, and never went back to PA!!!

I think it's awesome!!!!! Enjoy your time!

:thumbsup2 You are not alone. I just hope Disney see's what a potential new market they have opening up? More adult only resturants, hotels that cater to the adult crowd, etc. :goodvibes
