Tell me if this is possible...

We are in the process of purchasing a resale contract. If it passes ROFR, according to the contract I signed, we are to close by Feb 22. We are going to be in Orlando 2/19-2/24. I planned on purchasing AP's (and DDE) for our trip.

Here's the big question: How soon after we close will I be able to get AP's with a DVC discount? And if I purchase the AP's full price and then want to exchange them for the DVC discounted AP's when I finally get a membership card, do I have to do this in person? Our next trip to Orlando won't be until August and I'm sure they would prorate the discount for the time left, so we would lose $$.

It will take at least a week after closing for DVC to get you into the system and for you to have a member number. If you don't close until 2/22, you willnot get your member number in time to purchase APs with the discount for your February trip.

You will not be able to exchange your regularly priced APs for DVC discounted APs. Disney doesn't do that. What you can do is exchange your regularly priced APs for a DVC discounted PAP and then enjoy the waterparks, DQ and PI clubs for no extra charge. Some here have reported getting a few dollars back when they did this exchange, but the official policy is not to give refunds, so don't count on that.

If you decide to xchange your APs for DVC-discounted PAPs, you have to do it on site and in person. The expiriation date of the PAPs will be the same as the expiration date on your APs.

Best wishes -

So if a miracle happens and I close the week before we go and make it into the system, can we get discounted APs with just a member number?

Yes - you can stop over at the SSR sales center and pick up a temporary member card. That card (and a photo ID) will allow you to purchase the DVC discounted APs as well as take advantage of any other DVC perks that require the member to show the card.

Good luck -

Sales are really brisk right now due to the F&F promo...it truly would be a miracle if you close by the date projected, let alone early. Your best bet may be to buy 10-day MYW tickets w/no expiration and use the remaining days to upgrade to AP's w/DVC discount when you return in August. You'll need to do the math to see if you come out ahead. Good Luck!

That's a good idea about the 10 day tickets. Lowest cost per day. But doesn't the AP you upgrade to then begin on the first used day of the 10-day ticket?

No, you won't technically be doing an upgrade. (Upgrade means you trade your MYW ticket in within 13 days of the first use and you get the full value of the price you paid as a credit towards your purchase of the AP. That's the only time your AP would be backdated).

What you will be doing is asking for a dollar credit. Sometimes if you don't use the proper terminology, the CMs will tell you you can't do what you want to do.

You'll be turning in the remaining value of the MYW ticket for credit towards the purchase of a DVC-discounted AP. If you decide to do this, be sure you purchase the no-expiration feature for the MYW ticket. If you don't, the MYW ticket will expire 14 days from first use.

If you decide to use the remaining value of your MYW ticket to purchase a DVC discounted AP in August, your year of admission will begin on the day you do the transaction - and you have to do this transaction in person, on site.

Best wishes -

Last June after joining I went to guest relations at Epcot and they discounted my ap to the DVC cost. I got a refund on the spot.
