Tell me if this is a reasonable request or not...

Ok...we have secured a townhouse rental at windsor hills through vacationcentralflorida. I am still outside my 60 days for cancellation w/ a full refund of depost and have noticed they have a couple of other townhouses available during my dates at a now reduced rate of a couple hundred dollars less than the one I am getting.

Is it reasonable to ask them if they would either consider lowering the price on the one we have rented or change our rental from one property to the other that has a lower rental rate? I am trying to make every cent count and according to their policy I could still cancel if I wanted.........

Not wanting to get flamed by anyone just want a little advise as to what you think???

The only thing they can say is no. It's fairly unusual to have all deposit money refundable at 60 days (most owners I've rented from have non-refundable deposits) but if that is their policy, then what's the harm?

Agreed. Just ask if you can switch to that other offer, if they say no, say okay thank you, please cancel my reservation.

At that time they may try to please you. If not, rebook AFTER YOU HAVE A CONFIRMATION of your cancellation.

I personally would not feel right doing this. You booked earlier so that you have the peace of mind of knowing you got a fair deal and accommodations that you were happy with. That peace of mind comes at a price. Then again, the worst they can say is no. I am just not bold enough to do it myself. Good luck and let us know what happens.

hummmm we are bargain shoppers so I look at it this way-If I buy something at Target and it goes on sale 2 weeks later darn skippy Im gonna return it at get it at a lower price if I can. It surely wont hurt to ask!

This.

If there were a cancellation penalty, I'd agree with you both, for sure.

But, if the OP can cancel without a penalty, then asking for a reduction is no different from cancelling and rebooking---and the homeowner would still get less money, but it would create more work for everyone.

I'd ask and/or rebook! Their cancellation policy is extremely liberal....even if it's a week before, if they can rent the place you get your money back less difference in price of rental.

You get a complete refund for a cancel outside of 60 days.

Ok....here's the verdict :).

Yes...I was bold enough and asked very politely expecting a "sorry....can't do that." I was emailed back and told, yes, no problem at all they could switch me to another townhouse that was available just let them know which one. I picked a different townhouse that I thought he owned and they transferred the deposit to the "new" one, which I found out after booking was owned by different people but they advertise for them on their website (friends of theirs).

The vacationcentralflorida people~~Dave Robinson~~ was very accommodating and extremely professional. I guess since their cancellation policy was 60 days out they were ok with it. I felt a little bad when I found out it was a different owner but I expect they will have no problem booking the week we had originally reserved.

I have to say they will probably get my repeat business EVERY time we go down there now so in the long run they are going to make more money off of me now and get a lot of free advertisement from me to my friends. We are actually considering going down there next summer for our ball team to play at WWS and I am the "room" planner so guess where we're all gonna stay ;).

BTW~~total saved $180.xx

Yes, do it! In this economy, the rental company should honor the lower price. If they don't, cancel and re-book. You are the consumer and you are outside the 60 day window. You have every right to comparison shop for the best deal and you should not hesitate to do so....

I'm with you! This sort of thing goes a long ways with me towards establishing customer loyalty (and like you, I make sure to tell everybody I know about a company being customer friendly). It really tells me that they value my business. I'll definitely check them out next time I'm there! :thumbsup2

It's good that there's another great story about vacationcentralflorida.

Especially to all those people who are a little bit leary of renting through an individual :) I'm glad it worked out well for you.

You mean if you hadn't actually used the item. Right?
:)

Well, most stores have price guarantees. So if the price drops within 30 days of you purchase, you can go back in and be refunded the difference. You really don't return the used item and buy a new one.

Good for you and good for Dave! This is how you build customer support and loyalty!! I rented from them last November and was extremely pleased and certainly recommend them every time I can. And hey, you can have a nice meal, a great souvie, or fun balloon ride with that savings:cool1:
