Tell me I won't be disappointed

So our trip is in 19 days :cool1: and we will be staying at AKL this trip for the first time. My DH and DD are sooooo excited but I just keep thinking this resort is going to be a beating. AK is not our favorite park so we won't be spending the majority of our time there. I just keep thinking that the transportation to everywhere is going to take a year and a half and we are going to spend all our time on buses. We have paid for a savana (sp?) view so that will be nice. But we will be arriving later in the day then usual. We don't even land until after 4pm so I keep thinking that by the time we arrive all the good rooms are going to be gone and we are going to have a view of half savana/half parking lot.

Tell me this is going to be just fine, please!

We arrive at the Animal Kingdom Villas - Jambo House in 9 days

We have stayed twice before and never had a problem with the buses. This will be our first trip since Kidani Village opened , so I don't know if that's changed anything :confused3

As far as your room view , the savannas are NOWHERE near the parking lot , so you will not have a problem even if you check in late :)

Try checking out the resort map before you leave , so you can get more familiar with the resort: http://allears.net/acc/aklmap.jpg

Have a fun trip :cheer2:

Not to rob the OP of her thread but....

For those of you who have been to AKL how many days minimum should one plan to stay to be able to take in the "atmosphere" I am already planning ahead to our 2011 trip and I just can't imagine that we will be able to spend our entire trip there ( we stay at WDW for 10-15 days).

Hey stitchlover, looks like we'll be there at the same time. We arrive on the 14th. I'll be the one wearing the lime green DIS lanyard. :woohoo:

I had hoped to have a DIS lanyard by then, had a email read on the last show and was going to request that, but I haven't heard from Julie yet. We leave in 2 weeks and 2 days might be a little difficult to get it by then. Maybe I should drop Julie an email? Or does Teresa do those? I'll keep my eyes open for you!

Hay Girl!

I am getting excited about yout trip! I am sure you will love AKL!
We really should do lunch when you get back so you can tell me all about the wolderful time you had. If you want, I can send you my DIS lanyard. Just let me know!!

We really enjoyed AKL. We stayed in Jambo house and were at sort of one of the far ends, talk about a long walk to the lobby. But we had a good view, no parking lots and did see giraffes and other animals. We did rent a car (just personal preference), so getting around was not too bad. I think you will have a wonderful time! Just go in with a positive attitude! :wizard:

I haven't stayed at AKL, but I would expect the transportation to be OK.

I would doubt that AKL ever shares busses with any other resorts. We rode the buses staying at Yacht and Swan, where those buses go to all the Epcot area resorts. Talk about time consuming. Staying at the Swan, you had 4 more stops at resorts before you even started to head to the park you wanted.

Our favorite resort forever was Wilderness Lodge and my husband refused to give Animal Kingdom Lodge a try. After a lot of convincing we stayed there for the first time and we both LOVE the resort, actually bought DVC there as a result. Animal Kingdom is also our least favorite park and we were worried about the transportation, but actually it is quick because you don't share it with any other resorts which is awesome! Where else can you sit in an incredible pool and see giraffe's at the same time, it is just beautiful. Plus Boma and Jiko have become our favorite restaraunts.
Enjoy!:thumbsup2

Good rooms aren't gone by noon, lol. It isn't like every person who is departing clears out at 5:00 a.m. and the housekeeping staff has so many people that they're all clean by 6:00 and ready to go.

People leave throughout the day. They should all be gone by eleven, but then you have your late checkouts. Housekeeping cleans the rooms as they get to them and they aren't running back and forth all over the place trying to get to the "most desirable" rooms first.

You can get a "good" room at 8:00 a.m. or at 5:00 p.m.

I don't take the bus and can't speak to that...but public transportation is what it is. The bus comes when it comes and it leaves when it leaves. It's like that everywhere. It might take a couple more minutes to get to Epcot than it would have from CBR, but I doubt it'll be a huge difference, KWIM? From what I read, the AKL busses make fewer stops than others, so bonus there - it will probably offset the slightly longer travel time...and you might come out ahead.

I love the AKL. I think it is calm and relaxing and a welcome respite after a long day in the parks. When I walk through the doors, I feel enveloped in that in a way I do not at the Beach Club or Poly, etc. I love roaming the halls and stopping to look at the stuff they have out. I have found the staff to be some of the nicest on Disney property.

But the place isn't for everyone. If you think you'll like it, you'll probably love it. If you think you won't, you probably won't. It's just a matter of taste and you know how to account for that, right? ;)

Pick a place you think you'll like and you'll rarely go wrong.

I have stayed in Savannah-view rooms, but I don't knock myself out to do it. The animals aren't the reason I go there and it's a good thing. I know most people have really good luck, but we never did. If there are any animals at all, it is just a couple. They're never all that close and they're usually just standing there. Sometimes they eat. So, I don't worry about my view.

I hope you enjoy your stay, wherever you go. Let us know how you liked whichever resort you pick!!

Heard from Julie today so I have my fingers crossed. Was gonna suggest lunch before I go but my schedule keeps changing.
I'm starting to get excited about AKL. It will be nice to get out of town with my husband and daughter. Now if I can just get my reflux disorder under control before we leave. I'm having a horrible flair up. Sorry if that's TMI for everyone!

I actually have been back on my Nexium twice a day for a month now and for some reason I started with this horrible flair up on Saturday. I caved today and have added several homeopathic medications today. I have cut out every questionable food and drink and have my fingers crossed.

We stayed there in January and LOVED it! It is not our favorite park...but it is our favorite resort. (Not that we dont like the park...its just not our favorite). Anyway, the transportation does not take that much longer, so dont worry there. We had no major bus delays. Seems they had plenty of buses running to the park. You will love the Sav. view. This was a trip where we spent time enjoying the resort for the first time...usually we are mad park hoppers. Have fun!
