I don't consider this to be "meds", since it is a supplement and not a drug. My life was absolutely changed by melatonin!!
I would fall asleep just fine, but then wake up between 1:00 and 4:00 a.m., and be unable to go back to sleep. After almost 15 months of this, I thought I was going to lose my mind!!! I didn't want to take any sort of drug......I'm a single parent and need to be able to be lucid if I get woken up in the night for any sort of reason.
So a friend suggested I try melatonin. I was highly skeptical. I took a 3mg tablet that night, back in October. I haven't had insomnia since!!
My younger DD is a sleepwalker, and I can still hear her if she gets up. I've been able to get up, take care of her and go RIGHT BACK TO SLEEP! Not groggy in the mornings, no side effects whatsoever.
My doctor told me that, as you get older, your body makes less melatonin, which helps to regulate your sleep cycle. Makes perfect sense to me!!!
