I will be booking our Western Carribbean Disney cruise in Nov. '04 for Oct. '05 for our 15th anniversary. We are using our DVC points. We last cruised in Oct. '01 on the Disney Eastern Carribbean. On that cruise we were young and foolish (okay, not young) and didn't get the travel insurance. Luckily we didn't need it.
Fast forward to March '03. On a visit to Chicago I encountered black ice, and found myself flat on my face with a triple fracture to my left femur. The next two weeks were a blur, but there was an ambulance, an 8-hour surgery to place a rod in my leg, and lots of pain and screaming. I was stranded in a hospital in Chicago (I live in Georgia) for 2 weeks, as I couldn't be moved. It took me five months to walk again.
Since my accident I keep thinking, what if this had happend on the cruise? What would I have done? How would I have gotten off the ship to a hospital?
So, I'm thinking better safe than sorry, we'll get the insurance this time. What insurance company has anyone used? Has anyone made a claim and had it paid? Have you made a claim and had trouble getting it paid? With which company? Is there a company that's the best? Is there one to stay away from?
Also, I read somewhere on here that you have to get the travel insurance within 14 days (I think) of BOOKING the cruise, not within 14 days of your sail date, to have pre-existing conditions covered. Is this true? Anyone have experience with this?
Thanks for anything you can tell me!!!

) But anyway...Can't tell you much of anything on pay outs or claims..but you are right with the pre-existing conditions being covered you have to get the insurance with in so many days after putting a deposit down.
