Hi all. I figure the budget board is a good place for my question. As far as Game Stop, how does it work? I know their games have a 30 day guarantee. So, instead of just buying Nintendo DS games that my DD will get bored of I thought about the stragetgy of her buying one game there and then trading it in every 30 days. Does anybody else do this? Also are there any other things to know about Game Stop? Thanks for any info! :goodvibes

We use Game Stop all the time. You can get an Edge Card for $15 -- gives you a bonus for items you trade in and a discount on used games that you purchase. As for trading things in within the 30 day limit, if you're talking about just returning them, that more sounds like scamming the company to me (and they keep records of this and will find out quickly that you're doing this). However, if you purchase any game and it legitmately doesn't work, you can return it within the 30 days. If you buy a game and don't want it anymore, you can trade it in for cash or for Edge Card credit, but you generally only get about 1/2 of what you paid for it.

My kids love GameStop. Lots of trading! The EDGE card is a must. You can save a decent amount of money. They are ok with buying used too

My DD10 is a GameStop Hound....he is always buying and trading in games, he has the Edge card, and when he bought his own DSi the first week of April he saved tons of money by trading in games he no longer wanted, and one of his consoles....My son is a regualr there so they know him, It is a good deal but please don't scam the company, that just ruins it for other customers...

actually with their USED games you have 7 days to return it for ANY reason..including not liking it. :3dglasses Just ask one of the employee's next time your in the store...I often buy games I am unsure of used for this exact reason. If ds beats it in 4 hours or ends up not really liking it back we go to exchange it for a different one. :woohoo: Now I don't buy with the intent of giving it right back to them just so ds can get another game but it is nice to try out the game and see if its worth keeping. :thumbsup2 I also think the edge card is a good idea if you intend to buy used or trade in your old stuff. However I never trade in stuff unless they are doing a promotion that gives you an extra percentage 30% or more on top of what they normally give for a game. They do this every few months so I just kepp an eye out.

Thanks for the tips everybody. As far as scamming that was not my intent.....I was not even sure how it all worked. You know how you hear about different things from different people. About the Edge Card thing, it costs $15 and then how does it work? Tell more about the trading and how exactly does that work? Sorry, just trying to figure it out. Thanks again!

You purchase the Edge card for $15 per year. You get a one-year subscription to Game Informer magazine, which my DS 13 really likes. When you trade in games, you get a much bigger trade-in allowance for the games than you would if you ask for the cash back. The trade-in goes on your card and you can use that money to purchase stuff from the store. When you buy used (not new) games, you get a 10% discount just for having the Edge card. The Game Stops take systems, most accessories, and most games (they just stopped taking original XBox games and they don't take PS1 games). You'll get weekly emails from them -- they offer bonuses for things occasionally, and that's the best time to trade stuff in. Recently, they offered a HUGE bonus if you traded in a Nintendo DS and pre-ordered a DSi. Sometimes you'll get a big bonus for trading in a certain number of games, or other items. Newer used games are often only $5 cheaper than the new-in-the-box item, but with the Edge card, you still get the 10% discount (and they're guaranteed for 30 days). My kids have traded in Wii games, XBox games, DS games and systems, a PS2 with accessories and games. I bought Disney Meteos for me at a big discount with the Edge card! They also sell DVDs and computer games.

COOL! Thanks for all the info!!!! :thumbsup2

When we traded in our Game Boy advances they were going for $15, but they were running a promotion...for each system you traded you got a $20 bonus. So we received $70 in credit on old game boy advances that were collecting dust!

Each time we bought used games the person always explains the 7 day return or 30 day warrantee. I have returned games that the boys didn't like and got my money back. I did get one snippy employee that told me they might revise that policy because people are using gamestop like a rental place and just returning games. I don't think I believe him. I think he was just having a bad day. At least, I hope so. That is such a great feature.

Good to know! Thanks for the info! :goodvibes

We have bought alot of games from game stop. I think I have returned 5 with the 7 day, we just didn't like it policy.

We just got DD a Nintendo DS, and alot of the games are too old for her so the bulk has been from those games.

We have never had anyproblem. I just make sure to have my receipt, and say that she was unable to play it or we didn't care for it.

Gamestop is addictive :rotfl:

My boys often trade in their games to gamestop and its a wonderful company. We have the edge card and that has given them extra dollars on items etc. They will trade in their used games and add money to the edge card.

They actually traded in enough games that they were able to buy themselves an Xbox 360 and some other stuff. Which is great as I didn't have to budget for them.

I say be careful because depending on your childs age, they can actually take stuff and trade it in without you knowing about it. I needed to make sure that my 16 yo didn't "convince" his brother (13) that he didn't want that game any more so he could take it in and trade it. That's the one issue I have with Game Stop, the age you can trade things in without parent ok.

Then one night my youngest came to me after being up there with his dad, and I find out that he got a quote to trade in his DS and all the games he has. He could get a Wii with the credit (something he has been wanting). I had to put my foot down and told him no!

Can you imagine a trip from Chicago to WDW with no Gameboy :headache: :confused3. I told him there was no way in this current life that he was going to trade in everything especially before a trip like this. I didn't want to hear the boredom in the car :scared1:

So.....go for it, but PLEASE think about the games you buy and don't keep returning. They will change the policy. We have seen it before......
