buying "day of" tix on Broadway

We are flying in to JFK on Sat. am, and then could head to Broadway. Would like to see Addams Family the same day (Feb 5) but flexible for something else (would need to be kid-friendly). How likely would it be to get decent tix a few hours before the show? Is it worth it to try, or should we just buy them ahead?

I've always had luck with the TKTS booth in Times Square (there's another by the South Street Seaport, I think).

Although I've never really been picky either. What I've always done is have an idea of 2 or 3 shows that I'd like to see and one of those has always been available for me.

I think that if you are really set on seeing a "kid friendly" show on a specific day then I would definitely buy tickets before hand.

The "kid friendly" part is that part that might be difficult.

What is the price difference? What time do they open? Are there usually a line of people or is it not a big deal?

I'll probably get them early since it's for DD's birthday, but I love the idea of getting them cheaper since it's going to be a very $$$ weekend.

(We're flying in for DS's gymnastics competition on Sun. but since it's DD's birthday that day we thought we would take her to a show and a fun dinner.)

I would not be too sure about getting tickets for a Saturday night show & having any of the options be kid friendly. Also, you'll be looking at a long wait in line at the booth - not how I would want to spend my time.

I hear the line is HUGE - especially on a Saturday. The one downtown is said to be shorter. I think you have to pay in cash? I get our tickets in advance at broadwaybox.com.

Keep in mind also that there were probably tix available for everything last week because of the blizzard. I would try to find a deal on Broadwaybox.

They used to only accept cash, but now take credit cards, cash, travelers checks or TKTS Gift Certificates.

Tickets for matinees go on sale at 10 am, but we always line up around 8 am to get a good spot in line.

You can check out the website TDF.org to see what was available the previous week. It should be a good indication of what will be available, but you have to go in with an open mind because what you have your heart set on might not be there on the day you go.

I've gotten seats in the front row orchestra and the last row of the balcony. The only really bad seats I ever had were when I went to see CATS and we were under the balcony. I was miserable, but it could be because the show was awful as well

I have done it a few times. I get in line 2 hours early. We get something to eat and a coffee and go stand in line. When I have my DD with me I make sure she has something to keep her occupied.

There are Broadway guides available that list all the current shows and I would suggest having that in hand, make a list of the shows you want in the order you want them.

Have a great time! i ended up compromising one time and was really surprised at how much my DD liked the show.
