What do you love about it? Is there anything you'd change?

Do you prefer upscale elegance or trendy cutting-edge? Quiet pampering or gossipy fun?

Just curious. Please share as much as you'd like.

My whole family has been going to the same woman to cut our hair for a number of years, we actually followed her from another company and now she and 2 other ladies have owned the current one for about 10 years now. It is not a Supercuts but it also isn't a foo foo salon, it's a nice styling salon. She isn't as expensive as the foo foo places but she isn't as cheap as Supercuts either.... about $20 for a cut, $30 for cut and blow dry. She is cheaper, however, in cutting kids hair.... she only charges $10 which is cheaper then most of the cheapy places here and she does a fantastic job and really takes the time. My mom goes there, grandma, sisters, aunt, and a number of friends we've refered there through the years.

p.s. they are a very very chatty bunch.. you laugh your rear off the whole time.

I really like my salon right now. It is owned by this lovely Vietnamese couple and he cuts and colours my hair. I've been going now for about 3 years and wouldn't change a thing. I've been to several different salons around here and am just comfortable in this one. It is very casual and laid-back. The wife loves to chat, as does the husband, but it isn't real gossipy. I cannot stand pretension, and will not go to a fancy-schmancy salon. All I want is a good cut, pretty colour, and a good price. Oh yeah, he has the BEST receptionist. She is hysterical!

Besides, I grew up having Asian dudes cut my hair...I just feel more comfortable! (I grew up in Asia.) :thumbsup2

I pay way too much for a wash, cut and style. When I get my hair highlighted, I need to take a loan! My hair is short and I hate to pay big bucks but I am scared to change salons because I am so picky about my hair and how it is cut. I've had the same person now for 20 years!

The salon tries to be a Newbury Street salon in our local community. I'm eventually going to have to find somewhere else if their prices keep increasing.

I go where my friend works. She rents a chair in a whole in the wall place but I LOVE her and the way she does my hair. They've talked about moving the whole salon to a new store but I'll believe it when I see it. We gossip a LOT because we've known each other for 16 years.
I'd pick the stylist and how they do my hair over the glamourous spa type place.

I love mine. The woman who does my hair is really nice, and she does a nice job. I have another girl there who does my pedicures and massages, and she's a sweetheart too.

What I love - the hair stylist is chatty and I enjoy that while I'm sitting in the chair.

The massage therapist is SILENT while I'm on the table, and I love that. I hate chatty massage therapists - I'm there to relax, not talk. ;)

I just switched to a foo foo salon

I did not want to -but I could not find a more casual less expensive place where I felt like I liked the stylist.
I don't mind a little chit chat -but when I was trying out places I had several who talked on their cell phones or to the other stylists constantly.
One lady wouldn't even stop talking to take my money!
The upscale place I go to now is very quiet. They offer drinks and do a short scalp massage before the shampoo.
He is never late getting there -He never talks on the phone and he rarely gossips.
I really like a professional attitude from the staff. Not condesending but polished.
I like quiet music -spa music is nice. Or just something not turned up really loud.
I like places that have a receptionist -so the stylist does not have to stop to answer the phone.

We like ours as we have to walk through it to get to our Kitchen.
DM has owned the shop for about 35 years. We live over it she lives under it and the Kitchen shares the same floor.Oh and my Stylis is the same I've been useing for 40 years and is very nice.

When I was younger it was nice to sit at the top of the stairs and listen to what girl broke up and was rebounding from their moms .I had long hair a few times and it was nice to go down on Fri & Sat nights and get a real shampoo before going out.

My youngest DD is my stylist. She works in a cute little salon with 4 other stylists and they are all chatty and fun! They are in the process of building a new salon and are designing it from the ground up and it is going to be fabulous! Of course, since I paid to put my baby thru beauty school, whatever I have done is free~~ but I'm a great tipper!!!! ;)

Mine is huge and kind of trendy. They move hairstylists up through the ranks there, starting as interns (cuts in the $30 range) and then moving up through various price scales. I tend to jump around from person to person, which I feel horrible about, but I hate when I find someone I love who will cut hair for $40, then the next thing you know she's moved up to the $70 range.

I don't like to talk while getting my hair cut-- to me, it's just sort of a relaxing experience and time to myself-- so I'm never looking to really forge any kind of relationship or bond with my stylist.

I'm a total "in and out" girl...

I go to a Regis salon at the mall.

I needed a hair cut, badly, one day. I refused to go back to the girl I was seeing who TRIPLE booked her appointments...I was at the salon SIX HOURS once for a cut and highlight. So I called up Regis, asked for anyone available at 10:30 am on saturday. I've been going to this woman (one of the higher ranking stylists as it is) for about 2 years now. I love her. NEVER over books her appointments. She might do an eyebrow wax or a male "walk in" cut (which are generally quick) while I'm "processing". But otherwise, I know I'm in and out in 40 mins for a cut and 1.5 hours for anything else.

Love her. Love the prices.

I used to go to a semi-foo foo salon, it was at our mall. It was costing me a fortune... cut, color and highlights was about $200!!! ouch!

I would love to find a good salon to do my hair that doesn't cost a fortune!!

I live in the Baltimore/Howard Co. area of MD.... if anyone lives here and knows of a good place to go, let me know!!!
