We are planning a Christmas (Dec. 19-26) trip to The World and have two tentative ressies - AKL concierge and YC standard view concierge. We stayed in AKL concierge last summer and loved it :teeth: . We have stayed at the BC before (and loved it), but it's been a few years. Never stayed at the YC, because we thought the lobby, etc., seemed a bit stuffy for us. We reserved YC concierge because you can only stay in BC lagoon view concierge with a family of five  , and that's a bit pricey for us.
ANYWAY, who has stayed at the YC with kids (ours are 12, 13, 15). Did the kids enjoy the atmosphere?
Has anyone stayed in YC concierge, and did you think it was worth the extra $$ (AKL concierge definitely was worth it for us).
Thanks for any advice or input :) .

You are too funny and you're right. I hope we here some responces too.;)

I just saw your dates, looks like we'll just miss you. If you decide to take the YC plung let me know.

We were at YC concierge this past December. We had been at Poly. concierge first, and actually left there earlier then planned to move over to YC. My whole family loved it there, and we all felt that we were treated MUCH better at YC then Poly. The staff there was incredible, as were the guests. There are apparently many guests who go every holiday and it was like one big party with all close family members.

We had many issues with the sevice at Poly., but the YC concierge staff more then made up for it. You will love it there.

Hope you and your family have a GREAT time!!!

Hey, laurenk!! Thanks for the positive review of YC concierge :D . We are leaning that way because we'd like to be near Epcot at Christmas. Hope it's not too cold then to swim in SAB. . .

Laurenk,

Thanks so much for the reply. Could you maybe tell me what the food offerings were? Do they have things that kids would like also? I can remember riding the water taxi back from MGM and watching people get off at the YC and wishing I could too. You're right the whole Boardwalk area is so beautiful at night. We had a garden view at BWI so this will be our first lagoon view. I spoke with one of the conceirge CM's yesterday and he said you can see the fireworks from all the lagoon view conceirge rooms. I'm just a little excited..can you tell. Thanks again:D

We had the room right next to one of the big suites, sorry I can't remember the number. The view was PERFECT. We faced BWI head on, and to the left we could see the firworks nightly.

I can't remember all of the offerings, but I have 8 year old twins, and they found plenty to eat and drink.

Donuts, toast, english muffins, muffins, fruit, milk, juice

In the afternoon we were not there but maybe once.... chips, salsa. gummi's???

Evening was various hor'dervous and yummy desserts.

Sorry I can't be more specific, but my kids found plenty.

You did have to ask for any soda's,milk, water etc. which at first felt awkward after Poly. having them out in the open, but we got over it.

We are pretty casual people, and it did not feel stuffy at all. I made plenty of friends with other guests in the morning while having coffee in the lounge. I was one of the few not in there in a robe.

The location is unbeatable, and it is very calming to just sit on your balcony and take it all in.

I promise that you will all enjoy it!!!:D

First, request a room close to the Elevator. There is a hallway that is long and some people complain about the walk. Being by the elevator puts you close to the desk and lounge, not to mention close to the elevator. The staff was just great, they all seemed to say "Hi", some greated by name. They worked wonders to help you with PS. We thought for sure that we couldn't get a Chef Mickey's since when I called they were booked. 2 minutes on the phone and poof, we had our reservation.

The food: I can't remember too much but, they had fruit available all day and night. The breakfast was kinda your basic Continental type with a few +'s. They had yummy chocolate chip cookies all day and night too. If you asked for soda or water they gave you it and even some extra's sometimes. The night time desserts (LET'S NOT GO THERE) they are to die for. You have to lose 5 pounds before you go so you can eat all the desserts.

YC Itself: Yes it looks very upscale to some, but we felt very comfortable there. Kinda like some people thing the GF is to upscale when it really is NOT. It's all in how you look at it. We loved our 7 night stay there. The walk to Epcot was nice and relaxing. We had a Epcot view so we could see the High fireworks from our balcony every night. Except the night we had a firework cruise.:smooth: . I don't think you will be let down. All the Castmembers were great.

I hope this helps some. Sorry I can't be more specific.
Have fun.

laurenk,

People were really in their bathrobes in the lounge during breakfast. Is this the exception or the rule? I don't think I'd have the nerve:D

Wendi,

That's a really good suggestion about being close to the elevators....didn't think of that one. Now for the desserts, I've gained 5 pounds just thinking about them...lol. Thanks;)

wdwnut61- While we were there I would have to say the robe thing was the norm. They apparently have many repeat guests during the holidays who feel very much at home there. Our room was pretty close to the elevator too. We only had 3 rooms on our hall... that big suite, our room, and one other, then I believe a stairwell.

Hi LaurenK and GrumpyandBashful, I just got back from the AKL Concierge. I also did the YC Concierge last October for 2 weeks! I loved them both but I felt the YC Concierge was not the least "stuffy" if you know what I mean! It was very friendly atmosphere and laid back. The AKL was very quiet and it felt more subdued and toned back. The food at both were great. I have tons of Pics. I will be Posting soon. We decided that this Christmas we will be staying at the AKL Concierge for our 18 day trip!
GrumpyandBashful, Let us know what you decide!

You guys have me so excited!! We are staying YC conceirge and I am so looking forward to the trip. I hadnt planned on staying at a deluxe, much less conceirge but we got a good deal so we went for it. With 2 teenagers and 2 babies the location seemed perfect. With all the great discounts to be found this may be starting a new tradition for us, lol.

Let me first say this - THE YACHT CLUB IS NOT STUFFY!!!!!! There, got that out of my system :)

I also thought that in the beginning but now it's our favorite resort. We have stayed concierge several times and will be back there in November. We have small children (3 & 7) so concierge works for us - no need to rush out in the morning for food - and there is always something available. I'm very interested to see what changes the renovations have made.

EPCOT is our favorite park so you can't beat the location. You can take the ferry to EPCOT, MGM and the Boardwalk. Lots of things going on. Also lots of food choices close by. (We are working our way through the restaurants in world showcase) Also, EPCOT and MGM stay open later. Our last trip we were at the Polynesian. While we LOVED it there, it was lousy when MK closed at 6. Then what?? We didn't feel like getting on the buses and going where EVERYONE else was and then braving the buses back. At the YC it's so nice to just walk "home" from EPCOT at closing.

Your kids will LOVE storm along bay!!!

Hope you have a great time with wahtever you choose!

Jill

It's nice to hear so many great reviews!
I'm also a little surprised that so many people hang out in their bathrobes in the lounge  . We never saw that at AKL concierge!
You all are making me reconsider the standard view at the YC - should I spring the extra $200 and get the lagoon view?? Do you know if many of the YC standard view concierge rooms have a garden or courtyard view instead of toward the parking lot?

nutz4dizney - we still haven't decided YC vs. AKL. Can't wait to see your pictures!!

I should be finished with my pics by tomorrow or late tonight!!!!
