So, we're traveling to Portland, Oregon on July 18 and the best fare we got was through US Airways. I've never travelled with them before, how's the service? The flights? Any on flight entertainment?

U.S. Scareways? Ahhh, ummmm, they're great.

Just kidding. I have not had the best customer service with them on occassion, but they haven't been completely terrible. No inflight entertainment that I am aware of (or had in the past).

No entertainment - they recently removed their overhead movie system. They charge $20 for the first checked bag, $30 for the second. $5 discount if do online check-in.

It's gonna be 2 long flights then haha. I don't really mind I'll have my laptop, as long as they're good flights I'm ok.

They're okay. Their customer service will not blow you away, IMHO, but they are perfectly fine.

I think they only have entertainment - movies, etc. - on flights to Europe and Hawaii. So bring your music with you! ;)

I just flew them in April and while their check in process was absolutely horrible, the flights themselves were fine and on time. Since I was flying last minute during a school vacation week I didn't have much choice. Normally, I avoid flying them at all costs.

Looks like costumer service is the issue, but I don't really mind as long as the flight is ok.

Thanks for the info and keep it coming if you have more to say. :goodvibes

By far the worst U.S. airline flying in terms of on-board comfort and amenties, and horrendous customer service.

On the bright side, they'll safely get you to Portland. Just do not expect anything.

Their flights are pretty bare bones these days. No video, no audio, and no in seat power for your laptop.

Other than that they are fine -- they will get you from point a to point b. Are you connecting through CLT or PHL?

I've traveled with US Airways quite extensively (internationally and domestically), since they are the primary carrier in our airport here in Pittsburgh. (we used to be a US airways hub, until the cutbacks and we lost hub status) Their prices tend to be a bit higher than everyone else's, so its great that you found a good deal! I've never had any horror stories like some of the above posters have stated. They haven't lost my luggage yet, the planes are all fairly modern, and I've never had one of these planes with no earphone jacks or laptop ports?? With this being said, there are no entertaining flight attendants like on southwest, the food is normally paid only, and the seats are comfy (unlike airtran which is THE WORST). Also, we always ask to upgrade to first class every time we fly with them. Depending on how many hours your flight is, depends on the price of the upgrade, and this is of course subject to availability. If the flight isn't full in first class, the fee is anywhere between 25 and 100 dollars. This was SO worth it on a 6 hour flight to Aruba. So...instead of paying 1500 a person for a first class international ticket, we paid 100 dollars more than coach fare per person to have first class seats and amenities. Don't be scared to fly US Airways, its a very good airline, just don't expect all the extras that used to be free. They are all at a premium now, but this seems to be the trend with more and more airlines these days.

U.S. Airways.

I flew them weekly exclusively for 3 years. It seems like every time I flew with them, things were worse. Their flights are constantly delayed, baggage lost a lot more than I experienced with other airlines and customer service sucks.

I dubbed them "U.S. Airways....Just 15 minutes longer" because it seems like that is what they always say when they are delayed.

I will never fly them again

Yes, connecting through Charlotte when we're going there and then PHL for the return.

As for costumer service, having flown with American Airlines for many years I don't think it can get much worse than that, haha

I flew US Airways last month out of Charlotte to Grand Cayman. Customer service wasn't bad, although I didn't require much, the flights were on time, the landings were nice and easy, and the luggage came out quckly. They don't give out snacks, just drinks, which I don't mind because I'd rather bring my own food. My only complaint is that I found the leg room to be very ramped (I'm only 5" 4'). All and all it wasn't bad. I've flown them before and will probably use them in the future. Next year's trips include Disney (using SW) and Barbados (using either AA or USA).

Flying through Charlotte can be quite pleasant. There are rocking chairs in the main atrium area where are the terminals connect and there is also free wi-fi in the atrium.

Flying through Philly...brace yourself. I absolutely despise that airport.
