I've been reading alot of comments about these neck wraps that you soak in water and they help cool you off. Have any of you used these? do they really work? Which brand or styles would you recommend? (If you have a link, that would be great too!)

Thanks in advance...

I remember it working okay, not fantastic - you can get them from qvc.com (among other places, of course - but QVC just aired some this week).

I tried one probably 7 or 8 years ago and it really didn't do anything. They might have improved since then, but I think they're a waste of money. JMHO.

I have been using these things for years and they are very good. Basically they are strips of fabric about 30 inches long and about two inches wide. Sewed into them is a chemical that when you soak it in water, absorbs the water and forms a gel. That way it stays flexible so you can tie it around your neck. The gel keeps you cool through evaporation as the gel slowly releases the water. Think swamp cooler, blowing air over water. The only drawback is that as the gel releases the water your shirt will get wet. When I played a lot of softball in tournaments we always had some soaking in the ice chest. Those were really cool.

I bought some in the sporting goods section at Wal-Mart (around $3.50 each). Haven't used them yet but even if they work a little, it's worth the investment IMO!

I bought six a few years ago, and they really don't work very well. I'm not sure of the brand name, but they sell them at craft fairs and flea markets. I've found that taking one or two clean washcloths from the room each day and soaking them with cool water to kind of "wash" off in the ladies room worked much better for me. Also, I soaked one and put it on my son's head while he rode in his stroller. Just make sure you take a ziploc baggie to store them after they're wet.

I havn't used them at Disney World, but last year at Boy Scout National Jamboree on staff (2 weeks of 115 heat index and no airconditioning) I bought two of them. Every day I swapped them out. Had one soaking in the cooler at all times. It was a life saver!!

However, nothing, I mean nothing, replaces drinking copious amounts of water in the heat!!!
