Planning on doing this one in April! (9th to be exact, if I have any other fellow nuts coming with me!).. tell me your experience!? Oh, and good question.. but for my picky eaters.. can our teens get the kids meal? (16+14)

I'm not sure about the meal. But both my DH & DD are picky & still found something to nibble on in their bucket. I wouldn't look at it as a meal anyway, more like a snack. The tour was wonderful though. It's a lot of walking & some areas are uneven. Don't wear short shorts! If you can, wear shorts to your knees or close to it, the harness will make everything ride up. There was a lady who wore shorts on the short side & everyone on our tour saw more of her than we'd care to, except for maybe her husband ;). They also gave us "cool" clothes once we were in the jeeps, it really helped since it was so hot. Honestly, though it is expensive, it's worth every penny. It's an awesome tour. The guides are great too.

I've done the Trek twice and really enjoyed it both times, though I do think the guides vary in terms of entertainment. The people I had the first time were amazing, but the second time, one of the guides was really annoying in a "trying to be funny with dad jokes" kind of way that really wasn't funny at all. But the experience is still pretty amazing even with dumb jokes. As for the food, I have a couple allergies and they were super accommodating. I got an e-mail with information on what to wear and where to meet etc a couple weeks before the Trek and I just replied to the e-mail with my food concerns. You could probably do that and just explain stuff that your kids won't eat and they can probably help you. I think the basic menus are on the info page and I think i googled for pictures/descriptions so I would know what to be cautious of.

Loved this tour and plan on doing it again soon... makes me happy just thinking about it. Loved being able to slow down and really see things: it was odd to see the ride vehicles go by and realize how noisy we are when we are in them and how the animals experience them. The rope bridge is perfectly designed... spaced enough to make you think it's going to be a challenge and then when you get on it the spacing is perfect for the average adult stride. I had a gluten free lunch, and was a little surprised by how small it was and then by how filling it was. While we were eating at the Boma we had a giraffe munching away as close as it could get - it was awesome.

Can someone explain the pricing on this? The Disney web site shows it as $139-$249. That's quite a spread.

That is adult vs. Child price I believe.
It says adult. Other tours that allow kids, tweens, etc. only have one price listed, also marked adult. I suppose it's possible, but a $110 spread between child and adult seems extreme.

My intuition says time of year and/or time of day. But that's just guessing.

We just looked into it last week while we were there and I think the Cm told me it was 249 for me and 139 for my nine year old, but we didn't end up buying because available times did not work for us so I could be mistaken. I would have paid more attention if we actually purchased.

My family enjoyed the WAT, mostly because it was something new that we could experience together. I thought the meal was the best food we had during our week trip to Disney! I don't know if they're still serving this, but I included a picture of lunch, in case it helps.

I believe the pricing is seasonal. We went during Christmas week and definitely paid at the top of that range. If you have an AP or a Disney Visa, make sure to ask if any discounts are available.

As far as the meals, you could certainly request the kids meal for your teens, but I don't know if they will honor the request. Quite honestly, my DS8 preferred the adult meal and ate mostly out of my and DH's snack boxes. The food was really good!!!

That looks like three mini-pitas, the salmon roulade, either a curry or the tomato hummus, and fruit or something. Was that the entire meal (plus beverage)? It looks like a good snack but not a full meal, but it's difficult to judge the sizes. On the other hand, I'm leaning towards doing this first thing, and it's easy to plan a light breakfast in the room beforehand.

Do they allow special requests? I wouldn't eat the chicken, beef, or shrimp.

The tin represents the full meal. We were provided some sort of juice and water as well. It was a good snack personally I didn't feel hungry afterwards but YMMV. I'm sure they will accommodate special requests such as a vegetarian meal.

Yes, they do vegetarian meals and can make a lot of accommodations for allergies or preferences. When I booked, I was asked about allergies and then when I got the confirmation e-mail just before the Trek with where to go and what to wear, there was a note to reply with any special requests. I reconfirmed my allergies and everything was taken care of. Two people on my Trek were vegetarian and they were given special meals.

DH and I did this in 2013 at the beginning of February. It turned out to be one of the best memories we've had and we try to go to WDW every year. So it's pretty special to rank at the top. We had no idea as to what to expect as there was not much info to mine from for some reason. The weather started out fine, but turned grey, hazy and a little damp as the tour progressed. We were given blankets to use while in the truck and during lunch. The CM's were excited because they said that kind of weather was preferred by the animals,so we might get more sightings than usual and we did. We had a driver and two CM's with us who were the veterans of AK,having been there many years,so their stories were interesting. When we rode up to the lion area, there were two lionesses laying down with the lion actually standing up next them. As we drove up,the lion ROARED!. Then he roared again. Then a third time! The CM's seemed more excited then some of the people on the truck. They said in all the years they worked there,it was the first time they heard him roar. It was impressive. The sound went right through your chest- very powerful. They were calling other CM's for them to hear it. A moment we'll never forget. We enjoyed our time for lunch, but it turned out to be a bit hurried,as we spent more time than usual in the truck because the animals were so active. I would have liked to relax and hang out a bit more after eating- a rhino and zebras were standing near us which was exciting. Standing over the hippos and gators was pretty cool,as was walking over those bridges as the trucks were going underneath us. It was worth every penny to us and we talk about doing it again. Of course, when dealing with animals, you can expect every experience to be different, but in a good way. A great, different way to do Disney!!
