Tell me about the rain in June (umbrella/poncho tips needed)

Hi all--

I live in California and when it rains here, that means it's winter and it will be cold and rainy all day long.

I hear that in Florida, it rains in the summer and then the sun comes out again. This whole concept is weird to me! Rain when it's warm? Rain and then sun?

How do you know when it's gonna rain? Does the day start out sunny, then get cloudy, then rain, then sunny again? Will you have any indication in the morning that it's going to rain later? How long does the rain last? Do you need a sweater so you don't get cold in the rain? Is there thunder and lightning? Does it rain hard or is it a sprinkle? Will we need umbrellas? I've heard so many people talk about ponchos, but we don't own those and have never used them. We don't even have raincoats or galoshes.

Thanks in advance for all info. BTW, we're going to WDW 17-27 June.

We call it the "summer rinse cycle" :) In the heat of the day, seemingly out of no where, clouds suddenly form, and it rains for 20 minutes. Sometimes a little longer. In June, you may not get as much - it really doesn't start until July. Ponchos are available everywhere in the parks (they too come out of no where) for $7 (or half that at Target), so don't stress about rain gear.

we call them "park clearers" because all the guests who don't come prepared with rain gear make a mad dash to the buses to exit the park, thinking it's going to pour for hours:laughing: little do they know that it could be over in 10 minutes! I pack 2 ponchos per person for our trips ($1 from dollar tree) and we always have one in our pockets each day. Last June we never pulled one out but that was the first time in all our trips that happened. Lightning is what will screw up your day if you happen to be at a water park. They will clear the park for lightning, so we gave up going because it was a pain to head back to the resort, change, and then go to another park--too much time wasted. Make sure your footwear is "wash and wear"--nothing clunky or heavy, because your feet will probably get soaked. we'll be heading back in June 2008 popcorn:: :surfweb: :cool2: princess: ASMo

We've been twice in the summer and the rains usually don't last very long at all. Last trip we went into the Muppets at MGM with the sun up. Went through the show (about 20 minutes I think) and came out to find the sun up and everything wet from a quick storm. Didn't see rain the rest of that day.
