tell me about the netbook you bought

We want to get one for our dd's for the big Christmas gift. now that all the Black Friday deals are gone, we need to find one that can handle everyday web needs and UNDER $200, if possible. I saw a Cmpaq one on bestbuy.com. Can you tell me about yours?

What should I be looking for in the specs? I know I want Windows 7 starter, but not sure what else to look for. Thanks!!

I recently bought my 11 year old daughter a gateway netbook from Sears.com I had it shipped to the store so free shipping..It is a pretty good one it was about $260 at the time but I think you can get it cheaper now...She loves it uses it for facebook, aim, and school work...It has a web cam so she uses lol cam and oovoo alot with her friends...I was going to get one of the cheaper laptops but this netbook had better options than the laptops at a similar price

I bought a Dell netbook last Christmas and mine is strictly for email/surfing the web for travel.

I honestly don't have any idea about the specs. LOL The one thing you may want to consider is most netbooks don't have a CD drive.

i got the HP mini 210 at Best Buy for my DD10. It was $299. More than i wanted to spend but i was getting frustrated with all the deals slipping by and then all the sold outs i just went for it!

I got my grandson one last year at Best Buy for$199. He's still using it one year later, which is remarkable for him. He use to use it with his xbox, but moved on. Then he used it for the webcam. He's dropped it a few times and it has some dings on it. I pretty much take care of the software for him as I have a portable disk drive I use. I know the battery life is pretty good. He's 16 yo. I have my own newbook, but mine is a Sumsung N10 which cost around $400. I take it with me when I travel to keep in touch, do airline stuff, and make dining reservations while in Disneyworld. It's a nice extra toy, but I would never use it exclusively (I have a regular PC and laptop, plus my GS has his own PC here at our house for his use too). I find my netbook to be faster than my laptop.

I got mine (Acer Aspire netbook) last year for Christmas. It was a little over $200. It works very well. I use it for internet, email, pictures etc. Mine still looks and works like new. I even bought a skin to protect it. The only problem I have with it is I am developing some vision problems that are making it hard to use because of the small screen.
(10.1). I need to get a laptop instead but hate to give this one up because it's so easy to take when we go on trips. Does anyone know where to try and sell a used netbook? I have never dealt withon selling anything Craigslist or Ebay. Should I try an ad in the local paper?

I bought an 10.1 Acer netbook off Amazon earlier this year. For some reason, the white color was nearly $30 cheaper, identical in specs to the other colors. I paid just under $200 for it.

For me, the biggest concern was battery life. I chose a 6 cell and I easily get over 10 hours on a charge. (But I mostly net surf, IM, and check emails). Some other people complained about the larger battery sticking out of the back, and while it does, its hardly noticeable to me.

I bought a portable optical drive for about $50. Otherwise, I put stuff on my thumb drive.

And the white color? I just got a skin for it (Hello Kitty of course) and it doesn't make a difference.

I bought mine on the Sunday prior to Black Friday at Target's "4-Day Sale".

I'm happy to say their Acer netbook does everything I expected it to (though all I really need it for is accessing the 'net and for word processing while at school). Plus, unlike many, I actually wanted a Windows XP machine.

And the price was definitely right - $175.00

Do keep in mind that many netbooks are small machines with limited capabilities (and small hard drives/batteries). Plus, if you want to run a CD/DVD-ROM, you will have to buy a plug-in external drive which will set you back fifty bucks.
