Not speeding, but when I was 17 I worked at a bank as installment loan secretary. I was headed to the company Christmas party. There was an intersection in our small town with a stop sign, but no one ever actually STOPS for it unless someone is coming the other way. They just roll through it. Which I did. As I pass another driveway I see headlights come behind me and then the blue lights. The officer asks for my license then he says the obligatory "Do you know why I stopped you?" I honestly didn't; I didn't even know if it was a stop sign or a yield sign when he told me, I shrugged. He said he was going to give me a ticket. As he walked towards his car, he stopped, came back and said "Miss, where do you work?" I said the bank, and he handed my license back and said "Have a safe night and stop for all the stop signs."
When I got to the party and told them, everyone was trying to decide which police offer it was that banks with us. We couldn't figure it out.
About a week later, my phone rings and the man says "My name is Officer ____ and I applied for a loan a months ago and I was approved. I changed my mind then, but now I would like to know if I can still get it." I told him to come fill out an application.
When he stepped off the elevator, I nearly had a heart attack. It was the SAME OFFICER who let me go for the ticket.
I guess he thought by not giving me a ticket, he could get the loan. He got the loan based on his credit history. He was late on his first payment.
