Tell me about the Backlot Tour @ MGM...

It's been about 6 yr since we did this and it seems like part of it wasn't working. If all of it were working I think it would have been better.

It's neat you start out with a presentation showing some water special effects then you ride on a tram while listening to some neat facts and seeing some "behind the scenes" stuff. The most intense part is the part with the tanker on fire and the water. It goes by rather quickly though. My dd7 was a little nervous but after it was over she wanted to do it again. It's fun ... give it a try.

We love it! I thought our daughter (3) would be a little frightened at Catastrophe Canyon, but she wasn't. She just covered her eyes, and that was that.

We ride it everytime we go.

It isn't what it used to be, but I still like it. Reminds me of when I was a kid and loved going on it. But, a word of warning, let your kids know ahead of time about Catastrophe Canyon. My kids are little, 3 and 5, and I didn't warn them. DS3 screamed everytime he saw fire for the rest of the week, including on 'it's a small world'. I think I have the only kid who has ever cried through that ride!!

I'll tell ya what I really liked.... seeing Walts plane that he rode on....it was really cool to me :)
I'd say it's a must...to do it at least once on 1 of your trips :)

My kids (teens) loved the backlot tour at Universal in California. They throught they would hate it, but it ended up being one of their favorite things to do. Has anyone been to both tours? Any comparison?

I enjoyed the older version better, but it was still good. And since I love Lights, Motors, Action! I can forgive the fact that they had to shorten the Backlot Tour.

We've done the Backlot Tour a few times. They leave stuff out sometimes. The first time we did it we got to see some of the houses from TV shows like the Golden Girls. We also got to walk through the Prop room, which we liked. However, the last couple times we didn't see hardly anything...the props were roped off and we just went to the Canyon and back. I guess it depends on the age of your kids, too. I would probably say do it once, the Canyon part is worth it. Have fun!
