Tell me about the A/C at POP

I read a review on Deb's site that said the air conditioning at POP is on some kind of motion sensor and the rooms get warm over night and while you're out at the parks during the day. I'm OK with my room warming up while I"m out at the parks, but not while I'm sleeping! ACK! Does it actually warm up overnight? Is there a way to keep the room cool at night? I'm considering staying at POP for a trip in January, and I want to be prepared! Maybe it won't be too hot then, but you never know. Thoughts?

Hi! I also heard this, so just to be sure I took a small fan that I bought at wal-mart that turned/oscelated (spelling). When we would leave for the parks, I would turn it on low to keep something moving in the room, and did the same at night. We never had any problem with the room heating up at any point. Don't know if it was b/c of the fan, or b/c the AC thing is a myth. :confused3

Just a tip I thought I would share.

:thumbsup2 This is exactly what I was thinking about doing, but I wasn't sure if this was a DIS accepted practice (thwarting Disney's plans to save some $$ on my AC)! :lmao: I'm glad to hear that it worked for you! Here's hoping they don't come attack us now!! :rotfl:

We stayed at Pop this past August and I never noticed that the room was warm. After returning from the parks or at night. I'm not one that likes to be able to hang meat in my room. I just like to be comfortable. I kept the AC set at like 72/73 and it always seemed fine to me.

We were at POP in August and had no problem with the AC. I was able to lower or raise the temp as needed.

I was going to say the same thing. We were there at the end of August and it was HOT and HUMID. I like the room to be really cool because I am always warm. I had no problems at all. During the day I set the themostat to 68 and it was very cool in the room when we returned in the afternoon. At night, I would set it at 69 or 70 and it was fine. I wouldn't worry about it. It's not going to be a problem.

It's easy to bypass the sensors just buy a park balloon and place it near the wall unit it'll move around and trick the sensor thinking someone is moving.

This is an issue at all of the newer resorts, including our DVC resort Saratoga Springs. There is a way to override the thermostats, and there is a thread on the DVC Misc board that shows how to do this. (I have done it, it works)

I know that there is a way to bypass the sensor - because we did it - but I don't remember how......we had two rooms and at first we only did the bypass in one room......the other was HOT so we quickly bypassed that sensor too.

We had the warm room issue during the middle of the night. After we received an anniversary balloon bouquet and card - no problems at all! So the balloon will definitely work!

We never noticed any warming or anything. You set the thermostat to what temperature you want and it comes on and off during the night to maintain that temperature. Just like at our house. I don't think there's any motion sensor because it worked for us fine.

This is what I had saved from a previous post about overriding the AC at POP:

"On the thermostat push the power button and the down arrow (that adjusts the temp) at the exact same time. If you do this correctly there will be the letters "bp" where the temp numbers usually are. You are now bypassing the sensors in the room. You can then set the temp to whatever you want and it keeps the room that cold whether you are in it or not. You might have to do this once a day as the thermostat tends to go back to sensor mode after 24 hours."

We stayed at POP in May and I'm pleased to say that we didn't have to do this....we set our thermostat to 68 and it was nice and cool when we got back from the parks at night and was even still cool when we woke up in the morning.

There is definitely a motion sensor on the thermostat (at least on ours). I tried to remember the override but I'm uncertain it will work anymore - the unit we had did not have a power button. There were three buttons along the button - can't remember their labels then the up and down arrows.

I can tell you our temperature was always a few degrees higher in the mornings until we got to moving around. And, there was definitely a marked difference once the balloons were on the table in front of the unit.

I think the thermostats at the Swan were like this when we stayed there. We couldn't figure out why the air kept going off when we were out of the room. I'll remember the balloon trick for sure!

We got back last night from 4 nights at pop, we didnt have any problems at all with the A/C. We kept it on 70/72 the whole time and it stayed cool. We did have a small fan that we ran it night but that was for white noise. =) No problems at all.
