Tell me about tent camping...

BigDaddyRog...are you listening? :thumbsup2 I think Shannone1 is ready to be your first customer! (And I agree--a great concept!)

If I had the guts to give up everything and go for it i would....I Know it would be a great business after a while...its just the "untill things start catching on" that scares me!!

I used to love tent camping, before the bad back, the bad knees, the bad breathing... etc. The very last time my dw and I went tenting, at about 3 am, some mold or whatever in the tent, got me wheezing and coughing so bad, that I REALLY thought I was going to die. I went and sat in the truck for about an hour, but it got worse. Well we had a small trailer with 2 quads on it, so we packed up in middle of the night to leave, and DW would not drive. My lips were blue, I couldn't breath, but dw wouldn't drive no matter what, so after fighting the best I could with no lungs, I drove 50 miles to closest minimart, bought some benedryl, and made it to a motel. 2 weeks later, we bought our 1st TT. Never looked back since.

Goodness gracious! I'm sure your DW has a side to the story, but....whoa. Blue lips freak me out.

It is a great idea! I know what you mean about "until things catch on" though. Scary stuff. It would be a great retirement thing to do, though!

Yeah, no doubt. Im ready to retire now...........but I figure I better wait till the kids get a little older before I go taking risks with their futures. Although the biz Im in offers NO benefits, no job security, no respect, all it has is money to offer....everytime we get new managers, I have find some dirt on them so that they will leave MY dirt alone...thats the only way Ive lasted so long when so many other DJs have come and gone.

Sitting back and delivering camping supplies to people who are exstatic about going on vacation and kinda glomming onto their vacation excitement sounds sooooo inviting. And ya know they will be happy with the services because they'd be coming out ahead financially....its such a win-win situation.

I was actually looking at houses for sale in the Orlando area yesterday. Homes aren't as high as I was expecting, my wife would qualify for a great government business loan because shes a female(funny how our govt isnt sexist).................I really WANT to do this, wheres my spine????:sad2:

I look at houses in Orlando all the time! They aren't too expensive~we could buy 2 for the price of the one we have here! Despite WDW not being DHs favorite, he has looked for jobs in the area (just because it would make me thrilled). He had some talk with Disney one time, but he's a marketing guy so the job was in Cali, not Orlando:sad2: . Plus I was serious when I said I wanted to work as the Fairy Godmother! I want in on everyone's vacation joy, too!!!!!

I think you'll find your "spine". This is advice coming from a wuss, btw. When kids are little it is terrifying to think you may not be able to provide for them. The timing needs to be right. Stash away some money when you can. If it is something you truly want, things have a way of coming to fruition. Sometimes you have to keep your eyes open for the opportunity.

So, one day, when you are setting up tents at FtW and I am the Fairy Godmother, I'll come by and grant you a wish! Or maybe I can welcome the tenting family to Disney! How about that for service!?

You have to take a chance sometimes to get what you really want. It is scary and feels like stepping off a ledge. We've been there. We own our own company and for the first year only did it part time because we were too scared with a house payment and 3 kids of quitting our "real" jobs. But then DH was laid off and we realized it was time to step up or go home. It was a very scary time...but also very exciting. :) And it's not like we couldn't have gone out and gotten other jobs to pay the bills if we had to. But luckily it all worked out.

If running your own business were easy, everyone would do it...you know ??

Good advice!

Ok, Carol, I went to WalMart today looking for the plastic footlocker you talk about but didn't have any luck. I guess I don't know what I'm looking for. :confused3 What department will I find it--and do you have a picture of what it is? Also, does it stand up to the airport handlers??

Hello. We actually rent pop up campers strictly for use at the Disney Fort Wilderness campground. We deliver and set up the camper and then pick it up when your vacation is over. The campers come with a AC, refrigerator, stove, grill, dining area etc. They are also fully stocked with just about everything you will need for cooking and camping (except food). You can also lock the front door to make it more secure. If you are interested, check out our website at http://www.greatoutdoorscamperrental.com. Thanks and have a great time!!!!!

This really chaps my hide.....somebody get a rope & some gasoline.......and marshmallows!!! and some beer

It is in the automotive department. I'm wanting to think it's called a locking trunk box.

Let me see if I have a picture. Yes, I've taken mine through the airport several times. However, I did put some straps on it to make sure it wouldn't pop open.

OK, see the thing the laptop is sitting on behind the bed. That is the one that Wal-Mart has.

Also, see the black and grey box on the picnic table. That is another box that I've got that is airline legal. Not sure where I got that, it's been awhile.

As far as attaching the straps, I bought some straps with the buckles in the camping section, cut them in half, then actually drilled a hole in the box and bolted the straps to the box with a big flat washer so they wouldn't pull through.

Ok, thanks Carol! I'll go looking for those and see if I can find them...

I have a spouse that can't go to the bathroom at night by herself. When we had a popup, she would wake me up during the night to stand outside with her while she piddled. Now with the fifthwheel, I get to sleep through the night. If it rains, I'm dry. If its hot, I'm, cool, I've got 2 televisions so there is no argument about what to watch.
